My observations are that the big heavy fast €bikes use cycleways that are already inadequate and endanger real cyclists such as me.

My observations as an e-biker is that it is the lightweight road (racing) bikers, invariable in groups of 5 or more, who are the real danger on the cycle paths round here, you must know them 30+ kmh all spandex and drop handlebars!

I will believe it when the number of registered motor vehicles falls. Less motoring, but not more cycling!

..

The natural gas terminal has been inaugurated today, gas is cooled and compressed to take up 600x less space than normal. Typical German: complicated, smells of work, expensive. But is it safe?

A small blessing perhaps: there are very few Rennraeder/racing cyclists round here, especially in winter😃

Perhaps cycling in groups should be prohibited too.

Not sure how it is in Brandenburg but in Munich there are now many of what was formally on road car parking places that are now cycle parks featuring multiple railings for supporting and locking bikes to, particularly in the areas around U-Bahn stations. Most welcome to as it reduces parked bikes blocking the footpaths added to that is the considerable loss of car parking resulting from restaurants being allowed to put tables on the streets adjacent to their premises in summer (covid times, not sure if it will continue next year). I looks to me like the trend is away from motor vehicles at least in the cities, I don't have one but my e-bike allows me to journey to places that I could no longer manage on a regular bike as my fitness seems to be in antithesis with my age.:(

It´s a freaking nightmare. I depend on the car to get from customer to customer and what used to be a half hour journey can now take up to an hour and a half due to the traffic bottlenecks caused by bicycle lanes and you are driving with your head on a swivel all the time because cyclists simply dont give a shoot.

Any evidence or observations for that? My observations are that the big heavy fast €bikes use cycleways that are already inadequate and endanger real cyclists such as me. Really €bikes are just a scheme to make money. Are people trading in cars for €bikes? No, they are buying more cars, bigger cars. So big that you can put an €bike in the trunk.

One of the "last" things I want, where I live is more cycling!

I am not sure what you are talking about.  E-Bikes motors are limited to 25 km/h so almost no one rides faster than that.  On my e-Bike commute most of the "real" bikers overtake me. I only overtake mostly elderly and sometimes even that is not easy.

It is thanks to the e-Bike that I went from twice a month to 8-16 days a month of bike commuting in the months of good weather.  And looking at my colleagues I am not alone.

P.S. and some people buy the E-Bikes for sports.  What's wrong with that? Of course they will take their bikes with their cars because the mountain bike hills are pretty far.

€bike as "sport"? There is a lot wrong with that, it is cheating.

And you need a big car to transport one or more bulky heavy €bikes. A second car perhaps, van, trailer? So-called cyclists: 'cycling' with motors, creating even more motor traffic.

..

There was an instructive (Schadenfreude?) story a while ago, some people hired €bikes in the Alps in Bayern, whizzed up a hill, had lunch at the top. Going up the steep hill had been easy but they were too scared to cycle down. They left the €bikes, walked down instead (quite wise actually).

The mountain rescue volunteers recovered the so-called "bikes" later and required payment of several hundred €uros.

I guess that is why they are called €€€-bikes😃

Probably more to @Fietsrad liking! I seem to remember him complaining bitterly about the lack of space on trains for both passengers and bikes during last summers €9,- ticket deal!:P

I don t have an e-bike but I know several people who do, who would otherwise be couch potatoes. E-bikes get some people out into the fresh air right outside their front door.

Yes, it is a sport.  In mountain biking the motor is used only to make it easier to go back uphill.  It is still pretty hard even with the help of the motor.

And in normal city commuting you still have to pedal, the motor is only assisting you.  You might even sweat.

It looks like you are just a hater.  And a very childish one, considering you keep repeating your "€bike" funny name.  Why the beef? Can't afford one?

There's this new invention called a bike rack. Perhaps you haven't heard of it.

Maybe.

But should others care?

In our swimming pool some use paddles and this helps them to be  faster. Should those swimming without paddles like me get annoyed that they "cheat"?

Mind you, compared to me everybody swim faster, paddles or not, but this is another story :(

The size premium is extremely modest, after all ebikes must fit humans of the same size as real bikes. So any car can take as many ebikes as real bikes.

Very dangerous for innocent motorists on the freeway. Cycles can fall off if not fastened properly😕

Nearly 50% more, seems a lot.

If I were offered a pay rise of 49% I would be thrilled!

I doubt these extra 12kg extra (ok, per ebike) really force motorists getting a bigger car.

Exactly! And engines can fall off planes too if not attached properly - this is why I don't go out much anymore.

Jeez pal - get a life.

What, the motor gets you UP - is the "sport" descending as fast as possible? On public paths? I am far too careful and sensible to try that.

When I was a kid, cyclists raced UP hills, not down.

I certainly could afford to buy several €bike$, but I have other ways to waste my money😉

..

If €bike$ are so great, I think they should be treated as road motor vehicles and not allowed to use cycle lanes. Plenty space available on the roads.

Because a hill is an Alpine mountain.

FFS, Dude.

I have friends who have done mountain biking all their lives but now that they are in their 60's and such, they are using Ebikes.
