That's how I understood it. 9 minutes ago, murphaph said: Is it based on consumption to 31st December 2022? If so I will stop using firewood immediately and switch on our heating system in the entire house so I don't drive the usage down below where it would naturally be. Apparently. The "plan" has changed a few times already though. That would make sense for you for sure. I've already used a ridiculous amount this year (multiple workstations running 24/7) so should be good for next year already.

So my experiment of not turning the heating on yet, and hot water only a few hours a week was stupid. Oh great. They asked us to try and use less. Mind you, the cold shower thing has been invigorating.
Posted 24 Nov 2022 What about tenants who are paying a flat rate for utilities and don´t have a meter (such as my student son)? How can anyone know what should serve as a basis for calculation?

At least we can have the satisfaction of doing the right thing regardless of whatever shenanigans and brilliant plans our government comes up with.

Yes the proposed 80% rule will actually reward those who made no effort to save energy this year and penalise those that did. Simple solution would have been to take the figure of your consumption in 2022 or 2021, if higher. Would have been like 5 lines of code extra in whatever system they are developing. We have also been trying pretty hard to run things on eco and whatnot so I will feel a bit cheated if it stays as proposed. So, heat is on now in the whole house and the fire stays out until spring. I want to achieve two things: -normalise my electricity consumption in 2022 -keep my firewood supplies for the spring and winter of 2023, especially the winter, assuming the war drags on and energy prices stay high. 12 months ago people would literally pay you to take away tree stumps after having a tree felled, certainly you could get the wood for free. Now people can charge for it. My previously almost worthless firewood wood is now worth like 2k. Strange times but needs must.

Last week, the guy came to check all meters and he said I consume less than normal. We have 10 apartments in total in our block.
Posted 24 Nov 2022 16C, 61F, that is quite warm. I see people going out to the bins wearing T-shirts, obviously their homes are too warm. And/or heating energy is too cheap? That seems plausible, or perhaps people just have too much money? .. My slogan: put clothes on, not the heating!

Unless like me except when it´s pissing down don´t wear a jacket no matter the weather. I certainly wouldn´t put one on just to put bins out etc.

Last week I experimented with turning the underfloor heating down and although the floors remained cold I couldn't get the air temperature to go much below 20 degrees. That's what you get for good insulation. But TBH (and at the risk of this become a four yorkshiremen sketch) it felt pretty chilly and by the weekend I was sick of it and turned it up again. I guess 20 degrees air temperature isn't cold, but I found everything felt cold - like the walls, floor and furniture were all radiating cold at me and when I was home all day, the cold was getting to me despite wearing several layers. And I don't want to sit at home in my winter coat. Mine's included in the rent so I've no idea how much any of it costs. I could go mad and go for tropical heat; although from what people here are saying that might actually save the Vermeterin some money. I've been going into work a few times a week where it's always boiling hot and the first thing I have to do is open a window. Not to mention all the PCs being left on as people are working remotely.

As she doesn't want to sleep under a duvet she heats up her bedroom to 26°C. Thankfully, my PV facility provides more than enough electricity for the heatpump (which is my aircon).
Posted 24 Nov 2022 Crikey. That's entitlement right there. I would be absolutely livid if one of my kids tried that on. The environment has no chance when young people have those kinds of attitudes. Thankfully at least at yours it's not costing The Earth. Hopefully she only visits solar homes.

I am able to just comfortably heat my office at home with the door closed during the day but nothing else till the evening.
Posted 30 Nov 2022 So bollocks. Finally put heating on. The only important rad is not working (though it was when tested in the summer). Only top 5 inches getting hot, So must be blocked with debris? Rest of house (which apart from bathrooms we very rarely heat) fine. Suggestions? Googling says to turn off input and outputs, remove to the garden and run the garden hose through it to clear. Is this a serious option? PS two radiators the on off valve is stuck off. But that is easier to fix. PS 2 Have parket flooring.

Pop to the Baumarkt and buy an Entluftungsschluessel (they cost about a euro). There are loads of videos online to help you do this, but in short, get on old rag to hold underneath the key and turn it until water comes out. As soon as water comes out, tighten it up. You will probably then need to go back to the boiler and add a bit of water to the system afterwards to get it back up to pressure. Start at the radiator nearest the boiler and work your way around the house. It's not a particularly messy, time consuming or unpleasant job...and it should leave you with warm radiators.

Tried bleeding even though symtoms were wrong. No air came out at all, immediately water. Bleeding a rad is one of the few skills I have in this direction. Apart from blocked valves. But thank you for replying. By wrong symptoms, I mean rad is hot at top. Trapped air is usually coldest at top.
Posted 30 Nov 2022 6 minutes ago, snowingagain said: I mean rad is hot at top My mistake, I was too quick replying. Just drain the radiator then. Close the taps, unscrew the pipes and lift it off the wall. Tip/pour the sludge into a bucket. It's quick to do, but ideally a two man job it it's a big radiator. Probably worth pouring a bottle of Fernox through the system too.
Posted 30 Nov 2022 Is it a house? If it is you have to check the water pressure and you might have to let more water into the system. Then bleed again all radiators twice.
