I had heard of others in Munich receiving it so not a huge surprise. Throughout the last few decades energy cost has notoriously been very volatile. My guess is the present spike in energy cost won't last long. Let's see... Having said that, I'm still most in favor of reducing reliance on fossils.
Posted 14 Nov 2022 Extrapolating from the first 13days of November (admittedly, unseasonably mild), this month we expect to consume 506 kWh of gas for heating, compared with November last year 1177 kWh. Not sure I should cheer because we consume less, or should regret having consume so much earlier...
Posted 14 Nov 2022 My Wohnung has a giant sliding glass door, so I open that and partially open the windows for 5 mins every morning and it seems to work well. When I did it this morning the digital thermometer I have showed only a half a degree drop in temperature but the humidity dropped from 58% to 40%. 5 minutes after closing up and the temperature is back where it was, but the humidity stays low. It does work, but it's helped here by the fact the underfloor heating mostly works in the mornings and so the floors are warm when I do the Stoßlüftung.

And the Kachelofen, as it heats up the living room + kitchen areas nicely in the evening. Our consumption year to date is 55% of last year‘s -> and we didn't really start saving on gas until the end of March.

I do not have any heating on yet. Still got back to 20 within an hour of airing yesterday.

It shouldn´t be this expensive next year as the price that they´re buying gas at now for next year is less than it was before Russia invaded Ukraine.

Posted 15 Nov 2022 Looks like temperatures are falling this week, to below zero. Might have to start using the heating. Or going for a walk late, that is a good way to get warm, a bit tired so you can sleep well, and get the digestion working after dinner. .. The EKD (protestant church) in Germany is urging people driving on church business to do no more than max 80/100 kmh.

Posted 15 Nov 2022 France just introduced new (clean) energy laws and it includes that every parking place with 80 parking slots or more must be covered with solar panels.

Solar panels for what? Car charging? What if it's shady?
Posted 15 Nov 2022 For generating electricity. The idea is to use "wasted" space. Of course not indoors. There are as well some rules about unused open space in the middle of the nowhere but close to motorways, and even farming space, but most news outlets are only talking about the parking places and I haven't seen a proper explanation about those other things.

They normally are connected to the grid as well, so you can get electricity in the normal way as well. But if its sunny day and nobody is charging, they just add electricity to the grid
Posted 15 Nov 2022 Thanks. When I said shady, I meant the parking lot being shaded by buildings, etc. all day. Just to clarify.
Posted 15 Nov 2022 I see. Yes of course I agree, its dump to put solar panels in areas that gets little sunshine. I hope the french law has something like that in it as well.
Posted 15 Nov 2022 Probably. There is an exception for historically protected areas, so I guess they are reasonable over there. Anyway, how many giant parking places you have in open space surrounded by super tall buildings? And even if they were surrounded by buildings they will still get some sun. They do not have to cover the whole parking place, if I understand correctly.
Posted 16 Nov 2022 We got our love letter from SWM today. Our electricity brutto price will go from 23.13 cents to 57.32 cents brutto at the first of the year. Time to double our monthly payment.

Time to double our monthly payment. Got a letter about the gas price brake the other day. What about the electric, was this not also a similar deal? For comparison, I pay 33c or so with EON currently. Every time I check any other price/contract, it's like x2 or so, so anyone moving is screwed. I do wonder how long it it before the 'love' letter from EON comes through. Soon I expect. Whilst this seems excessive, the utility companies claim they bought power / gas at a set rate before the war, and that being flooded with new customers means they need to buy new contracts at the current (expensive) rate. Doubling the electricity price, does half the pay back rate on solar panels. At least with houses over 10 years old, there was some grants/tax refund on such systems. At 57c/kwh does an EV still make sense?
Posted 16 Nov 2022 Seems we've had a price break since July but not noticeable. Of course the EV makes sense. We are not polluting and charging is still cheaper than buying fuel. We are getting €400 for THG (greenhouse trading?) and will get for the next 10 years.

Now I feel like our letter received today really was a love letter. Our price rises from 28.86 to 41.23 from Jan 1st. Significant, but well under 50% increase so we're happy.
