Just saw this on Web-de. Not sure it applies to me, I already try to use as little as possible. I am trying to get up early so I can go to bed before dark to avoid using the lights.

 

Is he right? How could people be 'encouraged' to use less energy?

Nice dream, but when it really comes down to it, most people will use more energy than they need, if its something they want. If you want to save power you could just switch your internet off also on your phone, but that would have the massive negative consequence of missing TT

There is talk of lower speed limits on the Autobahn, most people are in favor*, but I think the greens are scared of upsetting the yellows who are against speed limits.

 

* Nothing to stop those in favor going a bit slower: problem solved?😉

I'm in favor of reducing speed limit to 170-180km/h, because it's bordeline dangerous. Below that it's just populism

There's actually not very much Autobahn that does not have a speed limit or can be driven on safely at high speed.

According to you. It is horrible when trucks are passing each other and people are doing over 200 km in the passing lane. Yes, I know that trucks aren't supposed to do that.

I already try to use as little electricity as possible, by switching off lights when I don´t need them on, and unplugging devices that are not being used.

I run my washing machine only when it´s full, and then on the super Eco programme. Drying, of course, is done on the clothes horse, so does not need any electricity.

In my opinion, I do quite a lot to save on electricity, but I certainly could do more if I had to, and were willing to make (more) sacrifices.

 

With the gas problem from Russia, I can´t help but wonder that the government hasn´t asked the population in general to make an effort to use less power. The savings would be amazing!

I wonder if fuel prices should just be substantially increased. Trouble (?) is, plenty of people have more money than they need, and could and would pay more instead of using less, it is to do with capitalism and economic growth.

 

I am like you, I was reading at home today, window open, heating off, cosy enough. Went for a cycle ride, seemed really cold out. Perhaps knitted jersies could be promoted as a new fashion.

Its "horrible" when driving in a Baustelle with an 60 or 80 kph limit & you have a truck trying to climb inside your Kofferaum / boot / <whatever the US call it>.

Or slow down, match the speed to the following distance? And thus force many following drivers to go slower than 80,60,40 kmh. That would save a lot of energy!

Reminds me that we haven't experienced a car or truck on our ass in our EV. While it keeps distance in the front, I wonder what happens when another vehicle is on our ass.
