The War in Ukraine

But that has happened in so many countries. Look at how privatisation in the UK has led to foreign ownership of so many State critical industries such as electricity, water, defence, IT - software and hardware, pharma. As for specifically oil and gas, countries like Germany cannot produce enough and so are dependent on foreign imports but if you look at the majority of oil producers, they are corrupt and have dubious regimes - Russia, saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, China. What is so bad is that countries knew that one day there would be supply issues and didn't diversify their energy supplies enough. Russia has messed around with European gas supplies a couple of times in the last decade so that should have been a warning.

Exactly. Why not refusing oil imports from those countries as well? And imports from China and others for good measure. Who cares that it would mean living like our ancestors did in the Middle Ages if we can conquer the moral high ground?

Nice thought but we rely on oil for just about everything. As for China we have made ourselves vassals to China with the switch to Chinese manufacturing. We might stand up and moan about the Chinese government and Chinese expansion but whilst we continue to import from them and use so many of their products in our own manufactured goods we will not be in a position to actively oppose them. We need to bring manufacturing back in house and we can start with State- critical industries. By that I mean industries that in foreign ownership can hold a State to ransom

Unfortunately we've sent so much money to China that now their middle class is so big that China's new super weapon is their internal market.

For example, no western automotive company can go without factories in China.

Very true but they are use to having western goods and splashing the cash that it will hit them hard if they can't have these goods anymore. We have to wean ourselves off China. One thing that has started to happen is that they have had wage inflation in the last few years and so manufacturing there is not as cheap as it use to be.

Unfortunately, it's not happening. As an example, all western auto factories in China, with exception of Tesla, are co-owned by chinese state auto companies.

GM is a crazy example, where the Chinese joint venture is stealing manufacturing secrets and keeping most profit within China.

It seems the Chinese have forgotten that the Opium Wars were the result of their policy of only excepting silver for payment of their exports. It seems to me like it is much the same now they want it all but when they have accumulated all the worlds wealth it will no longer be worth anything!

I think Jeba and the other appeasers should take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror. These are looking increasingly like genocidal acts by the Russians. These aren't casualties of war. These are murder victims.

Yes. And they could still be alive if Ukraine had capitulated. That's my point. Did you not understand it?

The Russians tied these guys hand behind their backs and executed them you fool. They clearly posed no military threat tied up and were not killed in combat or even as collateral damage! They were defenceless and murdered in cold blood. In your scenario, the Russian army would have free rein to execute civilians like this throughout the whole country!! You think an army that executes civilians would treat them better because their country had surrendered? Did you not learn anything about what your country did in countries it occupied, even the ones that surrendered?

Good news

West to send ‘more lethal aid’ to Ukraine, UK defence secretary says

West to send ‘more lethal aid’ to Ukraine, UK defence secretary says | Ukraine | The Guardian

Ukraine was also “looking for armoured vehicles of some types, not tanks necessarily, but certainly protective vehicles, and more anti-air,” Wallace said. “All of this will be forthcoming as result of this conference.”

This is the only way it will end badly for the Russian solders. in the Dombas area

Arming the Ukrainian is the best way to help them
