You did get that this was not the most realistic example (to put it mildly), didn´t you?

Exactly. It was based on your response.

Putin would stop and settle for Donbas and Luhans.

Then rebuild his military and in a couple of years go for more of Ukraine or maybe Moldova etc.

Do you have a link for that or is that just your guess?

There is little chance of Putin being "ousted" in any way we, in the West, would hope for.   I do despair when I meet even educated Russians who are convinced that the war in Ukraine is justified.

An awful thought is: could it actually be worse, when he is finally gone?

I would tend to think, he can go on another 10 or 20 years, so what should the rest of the world do ??, it is damaging the economies of the country's that have placed sanctions on Russia should we carry on this policy for as long the Ukrainians still fight or for the rest of Putin's life ??

I would say keep the sanctions until Putin goes, but I am very angry with Putin and his war at the moment

I wouldn't want my country to be turned to rubble as Germany was in 1945 and the suffering and loss of life.

If Ukrainians resisted the German invasion in 1939 and 1941, your country would be destroyed much earlier, the WWII would have ended at the end of 1941, with less loss of life on both sides.

The stupidity of Stalin who killed the most competent generals, as well as repressions, lowered morale so that Germans were able to take the whole of Ukraine. Ukrainians only knew Kaiser Austria, so German occupation must not have been worse, right?

This was a huge mistake.

I don't see a contradiction. As I said, it depends on the risk/benefit ratio. And that is very unfavourable for Ukraine. If I was Ukrainian, I'd want Selensky to surrender, even if it meant losing the Donbas and Luhansk provinces. I wouldn't want my country to be turned to rubble as Germany was in 1945 and the suffering and loss of life.

Nobody wants their country to be turned to rubble, but some things are worth fighting for. Nazi ideology is not one, so your comparison is worthless.

Nobody is going to argue that Nazi Germany should have kept fighting.

Johnson is a turd of a human comparing Brexit to a war. It's a fucking insult to all the member states of the EU to even remotely suggest any similarity. The UK was a member of the EU by its own choice and left by its own choice and nobody stopped them.

Add SNP's president Michael Russell to that turd Johnson as a second turd. Didn't he compare Ukraine's struggle to " Scotland's struggle for independence " last week? As if the two issues could be compared.

Never seen Trainspotting, John?

You may not even have to wait that long. In 2025 Trump may become president again. Then the 3 most important leaders running the show would be Putin, Xi and Trump. Wish us luck then, we'll need it.

I actually completely agree with you. Someone should really just stop Johnson talking in public.

However the damage Merkel has done to Germany and the EU is insignificant compared to Brexit.

The EU announced, at the time of the US and UK action, plans to cut Russian gas imports by two-thirds within a year with a longer term goal of ending Russian energy imports - which currently hand Moscow €800m every day - by 2030.

Ukrainian forces captured a batch of intact Russian missiles and fired them back at Russian troops, CNN reported on Monday.

Russian troops trying to invade Kyiv from the northwestern city of Hostomel on Sunday were attacked with their own weapons, Yuri Golodov, the deputy commander of one of Ukraine's Territorial Forces, told CNN.

"Last night we sent the Ukrainian armed forces 24 Uragan missiles that were on their way here to fly over our cities," Golodov told CNN on Monday.

"We captured them intact, gave them to the Armed Forces of Ukraine at night, and now the Ukrainian army has fired missiles back at them," he added.

Golodov leads a team of Ukrainian soldiers working to repair and repaint Russian military equipment that has been captured or abandoned.

The Ukrainian soldiers work on different types of military vehicles, from a junkyard in Kyiv, fixing broken parts, removing communications systems, and painting over any Russian military symbols, CNN reported.

"It looks like old weaponry, but actually if you use it correctly it will serve us for a long time," Golodov told CNN, referring to an artillery support vehicle that was under reconstruction.

"Everything that we take away from the Russian army, we transfer to the armed forces of Ukraine."

Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy joked that Russia had become a major arms supplier to Ukraine because so much of its equipment had been captured by Ukrainian forces.

"We take trophies and use them to protect Ukraine," Zelenskyy said a video address. "Today, Russian troops are, in fact, one of the suppliers of equipment to our army."

Ukraine's Armed Forces said Monday that Russian troops had lost 498 tanks, 121 helicopters, and 1,535 armored personnel carriers since the start of the conflict on February 24. The figures have not been verified.

Boris Romanchenko was a survivor of Buchenwald, Bergen-Belsen and other Nazi concentration camps.
On March 18, he was killed at age 96 when Russia shelled his apartment building in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
He survived one fascist regime, only to be killed by another.
Rest in peace, Boris 🖤
