There is a 20x200km land strip near Kupiansk, that is not part of the "annexed" zones. Unsure if Ukrainians focus there now, to avoiding giving the russians excuses for the next week, or if they just focus on grabbing more inward, and ignore the nuclear threat. I think they will ignore the threat and attack both, Russians don't need valid excuses to do stupid things.

 

One thing nobody is explaining is where should Ukraine focus next. The south area are in theory easier to defend after occupation, as they have no border with Russia. But they are probably heavily defended by the russians now, and perhaps the logistics value of the east is more important.

 

But one questions why they don't attack:

- down to Mariupol and cut the annexed areas in half?

- Kherson, which is within 20km? And it's the door to Crimea.

- Donetsk city, which is within 10km, and is the center of this mess?

 

Perhaps they are just waiting for southern troops to come to help on east, and then attack an undefended south.

One thing is sure: east is now easier to attack, because russians keep falling back and have no long term defense placements.

I think the Ukrainian armed forces react to the situation on the ground and this determines their next objective to a much greater extent than a grand plan made in Kyiv (which is how Russia fights). This is a far better way to fight as there can be no leaks from spies because there's nothing to leak. 

 

It's a kind of organised guerilla warfare. I'm sure it will be written about in books in the future.

Maybe for a change NATO / USA should act and not react.

 

Don't wait for Putin to do something and then reply. How about cleaning up the Nuke silos ( secretly captured by some convenient social media  ) and moving a few submarines around. How about having some big US ships in the black sea ( BTW, why are they not there to begin with? have they conceded this sea to the Russians )

 

Nobody has to do anything, but no harm in flexing some muscles.

No, US threatens to cut weapons and forces ukraine to sit on negotiating table. That's Putin's plan. I don't think it will happen and I don't support it.

Russians now murmuring that the borders of at least some of the Oblasts they think they've annexed are subject to "consultation" with the residents lol. They know they cannot hold never mind regain control of all the territory of the 4 Oblasts (and Crimea is hardly safe looking for Russia either anymore!) so they spin it as a consultation, all democratic like. What a pack of spinmasters. How gullible is the average Russian I wonder?
