Can I use my private haftpflichtversicherung for the apartment's wear and tear?

We are moving out to a new place and I've started to fix the apartment wear and tear. I already filled all the drill holes on the walls and ceiling, and the result looks good. I also tried to fix and repaint some of the torn wallpapers. But the new white color doesn't match the original one (2 years old), and the result looks like some big white spots on the wall.

I'm not good at painting and have no time to paint the whole wall. So, I cannot expect my paint job to be better than this. I wondered if I leave it like this the landlord may decide to paint the whole wall from my deposit. In that case, can I use my private haftpflichtversicherung to reimburse such costs?

But the insurance is supposed to cover the unintentional damages that I cause to someone else's property, which in this case, would be the landlord's apartment.

You caused damage? I thought you were just filling holes.

Because the apartment was under contract to you at time of damage.

 

Your mate's flat would be covered, should you spill tomato sauce across the tigerskin floor mat.

But not 'yours'

 

Same as you can't sue yourself for loss of income if you catch a cold...

Your glass breakage policy would cover a broken glass table or mirror.

 

Your contents policy may cover your

carpets.

 

But not your own personal risk / Haftpflicht.

 

(I'm not a insurance specialist. If you need advice, ask an agent who knows your policies !)

Just before I finished my move out of my last apartment, my wife broke the last rolladen piece on the roll. I think it was getting old and just bit the dust right then and there. My landlord said to try the Haftpflicht insurance, and I did and they accepted my claim (it was 120 euros to repair). I was skeptical but it worked out in the end.

 

I did however fix a few things  on my own dime while living there, e.g. the inner mechanism for the geberit toilet flush was broken from wear and tear, so I replaced it for 25 euros, and then a regulator on a radiator was broken (before I moved in) and I replaced it for 15 euros. 

 

The oven was not clean enough for his tastes, so I chipped in a 100 euros from my deposit to get it professionally cleaned. Admittedly I probably got carried away with the BBQ ribs I made many times.
