We will finally buy a TV

If you did not have the receipt, they do not know you bought it from that Apotheke, I try now to buy everything by card, because a lot of places can find your purchase, by checking the transactions and give a refund if they find it, they refund it direct to your card - its just an extra protection against losing the receipt

The point is, if it's returnable to the manufacturer, it doesn't matter where it was purchased.  They asked if I wanted the receipt and I declined cuz the coughing person at home was gonna use it right away.  Needless to say, I lived and learned.  🤪

I remember trying to take a punnet of tomatoes back to Tescos.

They had a big label saying 'Tesco Tomatoes' and a 'best before' date which was clearly visible, and gave them theoretically another two days of red deliciousness.

They insisted on a receipt.

:o which would have added what, precisely, to the situation, I asked. And ended up taking my furry white tomatoes home with me again, flummoxed.

Always take the receipt. Which of course I still don't

That was the same Tesco which, when I asked, on the 20th December, where the mincemeat was, told me they didn't have it in stock because it's seasonal  - they were apparently the biggest grossing store in the UK at the time, so honestly they didn't give a rat's arse...

Ok, I have made mistakes like this and still do, and I do feel sorry for you

But the thing is, if you bought that product at another store, say for 8 Euro, and then take it to that  Apotheke  , and say I bought it here, please give my 9,80 back. You you make 1.80 out of it, The problem is they do not know, you are not trying to cheat them, and they can only prove it by seeing the receipt or a card transactions. Sorry these are example numbers, I forgot the real ones.

Personal, you seem very honest to me, and would never do that, but I can understand the shop who does not know, not believing you, sorry about that, hope it tasted ok, once the hole and been drilled in the top.

Not a TV, but I recently bought brand name cough syrup, 9,95€, at the Apotheke. Child proof top was defective and they wouldn't take it back cuz I didn't have the receipt. I asked why they couldn't return it to the manufacturer, standard US practice.  Got a blank stare, and returned home and got hubby to drill a damn hole through the cap.  🥴

Beth- you should have got  a 6year old to open it!!

No need.  😂  It was a 10€ lesson.  It’s the principle that irritated me.

It was quite clear that the person behind the counter just didn’t want to be bothered, which I find rather aggravating at a neighborhood pharmacy.  She started by insisting that the bottle could be opened, until she it couldn’t be.  😂

It’s MUCOSALVAN and costs the same at every Apotheke I’ve been to, 9,95€.  And if the manufacturer gives the store a replacement bottle the store doesn’t lose the difference.  Small fish anyway.  I just hate receipts partly cuz I know they have cancer causing agents on them.  Your point is a good one about using the card.  🙏 for that reminder.  Tasted fine.

Waiting on results of hubby‘s PCR-Test yesterday to see if he has Covid (boosted 12/15).  In a strange mood.  😬

But the Apothe, does not know that you bought it there without the receipt

Maybe

1) You stole it, so if you take it back, and get the back for it, you make 9,95 profit !

2) Maybe you bought it while it was on special offer, for say 5 euros, when you take it back how does the shop know how much you paid for it.

3) Maybe you order 25 units, off amazon, with a unit cost of 8 euro because you buy in bulk, you  can make 2 euro per returned item.

4) Maybe its cheaper at the DM, and you make

That's why they always ask for the receipt.

Personally I believe you, but the shop has to check it was purchased there and for what price, before they do anything. If they did not do that then  any criminal could use any of 3 reasons above to rip the shop off, and probably another 20 ways to fool the shop aswell.

Like you say its only 10 euro, who cares that much. But lets say you want to take back a 2000 Euro TV, and the shop just accepted your word, and gave you the money back without a receipt, then there would be a lot of money to made by criminals, use the above methods

I got a negative covid test result yesterday :), hope your husband gets the same

I hate receipts as well, like a lot of things, but they are unfortunately a necessary evil

I just asked to exchange it for another bottle, not for money.  Sorry if that was unclear.

Not sure non-US persons will get this. We're really quite spoiled with the customer service and lifetime warranties and no-questions asked exchange policies (that are now slowly being replaced, sadly). Heck, I have Darn Tough socks on as we speak, that are guaranteed for life not to get any holes in them. Socks. For life...

I've tried to return things bought with my EC card. They still want receipt.

My husband thought I had become unhinged when I insisted we keep receipts for everything he buys stating long life guarantees from any store other than Amazon. He finally got the point when he had to replace several expensive long life LED bulbs after only a few months usage.

You should always keep receipts, because of your household insurance or should the insurance believe you on your blue eyes (Dutch expression) 👻?

Just a general question about returned faulty goods/clothing…

My husband ordered some lounge wear clothing online that were faulty after he wore them once…holes in seams, excessive pilling etc. As returns were possible at a local store, I rang the store manager asking if I should wash the clothes before return for hygiene reasons and that I was happy to do so. No, she told me not to bother as all returns are shredded no matter what the problem.  I did put the items in a sealed bag with the item numbers written on a label. Is such disposal normal practice these days? I would have even sewn the seams myself if I thought that the clothing would have been donated elsewhere…..such a waste! It was just that for full priced clothing, such faults are not acceptable.

Between 30% to 40% of the new clothes end up in the dumpsters (either because it was returned or it was not sold).    And 85% of all clothes end up anyway in the dumpsters after been used.   Reciclying clothes seems to be extremely difficult.

If you donate clothes, something crazy like 60% to 80% of the donations are dumped.

Fast fashion is the worst thing ever.

What would have done about the pilling?

Not sure…only ever had that with much older knitwear. I think there are comb things that remove. The point was that ALL returns are shredded no matter the reason, which seems a terrible waste.
