Further delay of Nordstream 2, substantially raising gas price

don't think we will know it

Looks like it was done by submarine, so it has to be done by a developed country

People are pointing the finger at Russia, but I cannot think of  a good reason for them to do it, unless its just frustration

Who will have to stop the leakage? Pay for it?

It's in eu water so EU need to fix it.. I wonder will Russia keep pumping the gas if leaks are  not sealed?

As far as I understand it

Both pipelines are full of GAS, but they are not putting more GAS into the pipeline, once all the GAS has escaped the pipeline will be full of water.

I  do not know anything about how or if can be repaired

Or how they can get the water out of the pipeline

Russia must pump gas to compensate for the water pressure at 70 meters. Not sure about the damage the Baltic low salt water will cause in the pipes, but they could be a total loss, at least between the stopcocks.

I think many suspect who did it.  Look which Western leader said that he would stop it if Russia crossed over the border into Ukraine.

It gives Russia the force majeure ground to avoid obligations under the supply contract to Europe.

And it is a brute show of force indicating what they could otherwise get up to 🙈

Oh lordy. Please stay in your lane in the 3G thread.

CNN said that Russia owns the pipelines. They also said that the residual gas in the lines should run out by about Sunday. The leak is putting a helluva lot of methane into the air.

One reporter just pressed the Danish foreign minister over reports that Russian navy ships were seen in the area the day before and the day of. He wouldn't give her a straight answer. Avoided the question twice.

Waiting for Putin (and some people here) to say it was a false flag operation.

ok, so enlighten me why Russia would sabotage its own pipeline and source of income?  makes me think of " Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face".  Has Putin been backed up into the idiot corner? hopefully he'll be put down soon.

CNN seriously ?? So you're one of the handful of viewers they still have ?

Joe Biden basically told everyone what he was going to do and he's done it. A Polish defence minister even congratulated the US for doing it.

Everyone is accusing him but nobody knows why.  You will be enlightened when we all are.

This, and in reality not a drop of gas would ever have flowed to Germany from NS2 and probably not from NS1 either. Russia may be planning even worse "stuff" so can be even more confident of that than the west. So, you've got these expensive but defunct pipelines which you own (so cannot be held to account for destroying!) and all this gas that you would have to flare off anyway as gas wells basically can't be turned off once tapped, so what's the difference between flaring it off and letting it bubble up to the surface. No economic difference to Russia except in creating all of this uncertainty about gas pipeline security, you drive the price of gas up 7% in one day. Russia is still piping gas to Europe through other pipelines. It benefits to the tune of billions of Euro. From the Kremlin this will all appear as quite logical.

It's in Putin's interests to keep Germany dependent, which is why he simply doesn't turn off the gas pipeline (which would be far easier). OTOH maybe not everyone in Russia agrees with him.

I don't want to agree with the nutcases, but the US is more plausible. Or maybe Ukraine did it. Then again the UK has a new Prime Minister who's mad as a badger.

Serious question: If the set fire to the escaping gas, would the resulting CO2 be less bad for the climate than the escaping methane?

Probably yes. Methane is much worse a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. AFAIK.

I very very much doubt the US would risk fracturing the current alliance which is remarkably in step.

Thanks for that tidbit frau, that explains so much. who else to blame  (CIA, NSA, MI6)?  2 explosions on 2 separate nordstream steel pipelines covered in anti-corrosion material and steel-reinforced concrete. what does Putin piece of shit have to benefit from this,  The pipelines were already shutdown and only contained gas queued up is my understanding.  So who benefits from the alleged sabotage?  Maybe Ukraine. Maybe Russia is setting up Ukraine?  who knows?  only the shadow knows. either way, accepting energy from a known enemy needs to stop, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise and Europe will cut the bear off.

The Russian troll farms had that clip on speed dial and hit send as soon as the explosions happened and here we are watching somebody fall hook, line and sinker for it. That's a microcosm of how Putin has been able to manipulate people in the west.

Flaring it off creates horrible pollution for one thing. Having it bubble up away from your own country/people seems like the better and cheaper idea.
