Posted 1 June "Prosecutors have tape of Trump discussing holding onto classified doc after leaving office" "WASHINGTON (AP) — Justice Department prosecutors have obtained an audio recording of former President Donald Trump from after he left office in which he talks about holding onto a classified Pentagon document related to a potential attack on Iran, according to media reports. CNN, which first reported on the tape, said Trump suggested on the recording that he wanted to share information from the document with others but that he knew there were limitations about his ability to declassify records after he left office. The comments on the recording, made in July 2021 at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, would seem to undercut the former president’s repeated claims that he declassified the documents he took with him from the White House to Mar-a-Lago, his Florida estate, after leaving office. The recording could also be a key aid for prosecutors looking to prove Trump knew his ability to possess classified documents was limited." https://apnews.com/article/trump-justice-department-documents-maralago-bc9b3613bd69d79e84ad6cb5eaa6a8e6
Posted 5 June A school district in the US state of Utah has removed the Bible from elementary and middle schools for containing "vulgarity and violence". The move follows a complaint from a parent that the King James Bible has material unsuitable for children. Utah's Republican government passed a law in 2022 banning "pornographic or indecent" books from schools. Most of the books that have been banned so far pertain to topics such as sexual orientation and identity. The banning of the Bible comes amid a larger effort by US conservatives in states to ban teachings on controversial topics such as LGBT rights and racial identity. Bans on certain books deemed offensive are also in place in Texas, Florida, Missouri and South Carolina. Some liberal states have also banned books in some schools and libraries, citing perceived racially offensive content. The Utah decision was made this week by the Davis School District north of Salt Lake City after a complaint filed in December 2022. Officials say they have already removed the seven or eight copies of the Bible they had on their shelves, noting that the text was never part of students' curriculum. #### Well that should start an argument... Posted 5 June Yep. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Expect the Book of Mormon, yet another set of indecent fairytales, to be next on the chopping block. 😂 https://www.npr.org/2023/06/02/1179906120/utah-bible-book-challenge

Posted 6 June The thing is that none of the book bannings are advantageous to children's learning. Whatever happened to broadening horizons? More dumbing down if you ask me.
Posted 6 June @Fraufruit wrote : "The thing is that none of the book bannings are advantageous to children's learning" Absolutely agree! But my view is that these lawmakers are passing such badly written and all encompassing laws that even their favourite books are being removed. Libraries in schools being emptied "just in case" someone complains. Next, they'll be banning reading...
Posted 6 June I haven't read a paper book in many years. I'm assuming that kids can access any books they want to read online. So it's all for naught. Even back in my mother's day, books that were "banned" were top priority for many people. Forbidden fruit and all that.

Posted 6 June I think there's a difference between adding a book to the curriculum and library and adding a political agenda. The far left has just such an agenda and when they don't get their way they claim discrimination, book banning, freedom of speech etc. Those very claims bring out the press to their defence and gives credence to their cause. What? No drag queens in the library? The horror of it. What about their freedom of expression? And then the men who say they are women in women's sports and locker rooms? Don't they have "Rights" too? They used to be called perverts. Are there any perverts left? I personally believe these are left-wing scams to bring contributions to their "cause". Being a victim these days is a money maker. Millions have been poured into the BLM industry and black crime is higher than ever before along with drop out rates. t's just a fact. Meanwhile, the not-for-profits claim the reason for failure is a lack of funds while the "administrators" live in million dollar homes. It's just a hustle.
Posted 6 June The US seems to have a banning books thing. This is not new. Imagining an elementary school child even reading the Kings James Bible and getting corrupted by the sex and violence is a bit of a stretch. Ditto reading the "N" word, when you hear the music that is going around. Reading is one thing, if a primary school child can make it to the naughty bits of Lady Chatterleys Lover, well, not sure they would know what was going on. But there is some very graphic sex stuff, with pics, cartoon style. I really do not understand that anal sex needs to be explained with cartoons. But, hey, what do I know. I find it funny that they think even high school kids need to be taught how to masturbate. They are saying the children deserve to understand the pleasure. Jesus, if any of my teachers had tried teaching us, what a nightmare. Perhaps that is the plan? Make sex unsexy?
Posted 6 June This isn't about drag queens in the libraries or trans women playing sports. This is about banning literature, most of which has been around a very long time with no horrific consequences. Separate topic. It's the far right getting hysterical about all the other stuff. If you don't want your child to go to a drag queen story time of whatever, don't take them. Simple. Trans women in sports is a very hot topic. I don't know of any of my liberal friends who are all for it. To me it seems very unfair. Here are a few examples of books being banned - https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/books/story/2023-05-15/15-most-banned-books-2022-2023
Posted 6 June Here's another example of a banned book...Mein Kamph @fraufriut "This isn't about drag queens in the libraries or trans women playing sports. This is about banning literature, most of which has been around a very long time with no horrific consequences. Separate topic.".... Gee, I'm sorry. I read the topic title and read that books were being banned there because of a political agenda. That's why I brought up another US political agenda. Thanks for monitoring me. As for the drag queen comment, ("If you don't want your child to go to a drag queen story time of whatever, don't take them. Simple"). The uproar was over them on display telling stories In A Public Library...you know, where children go to read books and where tax payers pay the bills. Your comment is upside down. If drag queens want to tell stories, go to a drag queen venue and invite the kids. That's life in America. Freedom of Speech. Not freedom of venue. As for your "Far Right" comment; I'd say it's off the mark. Just because someone objects to an agenda you favor, doesn't make them far-right. Life in Other Countries France Following public outrage online, a library in Toulouse cancelled a drag storytime event.[45] Germany In May 2023, conservative political leaders in Germany condemned plans to hold a drag storytime event at a library in Munich.[46] New Zealand In March 2023, a drag storytime event was held at a library in Auckland. However, the library was forced to close due to a protest.[47] United Kingdom In December 2022, a planned drag storytime event in Dundee was cancelled due to protests.[48]
Posted 7 June "The uproar was over them on display telling stories In A Public Library...you know, where children go to read books and where tax payers pay the bills." Drag queens pay taxes, too. Sorry you see my opinions as monitoring. As you stated, in Germany, it is the conservative political leaders condemning these things. Not the liberal left. The same in America. And I'm sure some of the liberal left may agree with them on this issue.
Posted 7 June I like drag queens 🐉👑. As kids we saw some brilliant performances 😂 so funny. Turns out they are not always comedic, but why would they be offensive? Bizzaro. Unless someone is crap at reading out loud, in which case, fair point, kids don't need that in the library or anywhere.
Posted 7 June There are different sorts of drag. The pantomime dame types (ok, plenty of innuendo/double entendres that only the adults would get), and the raunchy adult ones (funny but really filthy). It is the latter which are particularly weird in libraries/schools. It was a drag king who was reading in Munich. Stage name Eric Big Clit. Flowjob was invited into a Scottish primary school, and turned out they had a lot of very explicit stuff easily found online. And when parents complained, they were told they were being homophobic. What I am trying to say, is that this is not Les Dawson stuff.
Posted 7 June I find the whole thing of using drag queens (at the extreme end of things) to fight against the horror of the heteronormative a bit queer in many ways. I would have thought the normal thing is that some children have aunties uncles brother sisters who love people of the same sex would be good. Or that other children have the same. My school (mid 60s) was run by two older women (I mean they must have been over 60 at least). They shared a bedroom. When I heard stuff about this at school, and I asked my mother, she said, well perhaps they love each other a lot and like to be together. Nothing about scissoring or lube and sex toys. I do not think learning about the latter would have been helpful to them, or to me. And they were devoted to each other.
Posted 7 June "What does heteronormativity mean? Heteronormativity assumes that the gender associated with a person's assigned sex at birth is how that person identifies. Think of gender reveal parties. Society decides what gender you are—and what color your clothes, bedroom, and toys will be—before you’re even born." I had to look that one up. 😊 There were 2 lesbian teachers in my sister's public high school who lived together. They were well respected. Everyone knew and nothing was said or done. It was no big deal way back then. My sister is 73. This was in the bible belt south. People just make such a big deal about things these days that are perfectly normal.
Posted 8 June "Heteronormativity assumes that the gender associated with a person's assigned sex at birth ". Is a person'e sex "assigned"? By whom? I thought it was determined in the womb by chromosomes long before birth. Gender is ambiguous.
