Posted 23 Dec 2022 https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64071723 The congressional panel investigating last year's attack on the US Capitol has accused former President Donald Trump of a "multi-part conspiracy" to overturn his election defeat three months earlier. The panel has released its final 845-page report on the attack. It places the blame for the 6 January 2021 storming of Congress squarely on the former president. On Monday, the panel of seven Democrats and two Republicans recommended the justice department investigate Mr Trump - who is mounting another White House campaign - for aiding an insurrection and three other federal crimes.
Posted 5 January So in the "Land of the Free", it is well known, that "they" prefer deregulation than the Deep State with all those pesky rules. So how about this : as there is no federal rule stating you shouldn't produce and sell chocolate with lead or cadmium in it, Someone had to start a court battle because the company didn't put on "contains lead and cadmium" on the label. Oh, and it may contain butyric acid ("Buttersäure" over here) --- smells like vomit and the smell stays in your nose for a while... Quote A lawsuit recently filed in New York alleges that Hershey, which has the licence to produce Cadbury products in the US, “fails to disclose” that some of its chocolate products “contain unsafe levels of lead and cadmium”. You're telling me there is a safe level of lead or cadmium for foodstuffs ?? Quote American chocolate (I’m talking about the non-fancy stuff) has a lot more sugar and a lot less cocoa than its European counterparts. Some producers also allegedly put their milk through a process called controlled lipolysis which produces butyric acid. What’s that when it’s at home? It’s something that’s found in vomit. Opionated source Given that Cadbury chocolate does not qualify as chocolate in the EU due to a lack of cocoa and since the takeover by Kraft seems to no longer taste as good as it used to and Hershey chocolate tastes like sick anyway it comes as no surprise to me!
Posted 5 January BTW cocoa tends to have high levels of cadmium, especailly the dark ones, with high cocoa content. Not sure how Hershey managed to get such high levels, but thoughtful of them to add an emetic. (With apologies to Hershey devotees.)
Posted 5 January Yes, I suspect pretty much everything including water contains lead. cadmium and many other metals including nickel. Certainly from my time as an apprentice at a different UK (US owned) sweet and chocolate maker I recall that all the products were subject to regular complex checks for metal content and I doubt the safe level for many except maybe arsenic was set at zero!
Posted 5 January Arsenic is in most foods. Some animals have been shown to need it, and it has been suggested it might be an essential element for us too (in small amounts).

Posted 5 January What does the state of Colifornia do, when more POC than white people are ticketed for jaywalking? "Ting added the law prevents potentially escalating police stops, as he says tickets are disproportionately given to people of color and lower-income individuals who cannot afford to pay a ticket. The assemblymember's office said data from the California Racial and Identity Profiling Act showed from 2018-20, Black Californians are four-and-a-half times more likely than white Californians to be stopped by police for jaywalking." They change the law: "21955. (a) Between adjacent intersections controlled by traffic control signal devices or by police officers, pedestrians shall not cross the roadway at any place except in a crosswalk. (b) (1) A peace officer, as defined in Chapter 4.5 (commencing with Section 830) of Title 3 of Part 2 of the Penal Code, shall not stop a pedestrian for a violation of subdivision (a) unless a reasonably careful person would realize there is an immediate danger of a collision with a moving vehicle or other device moving exclusively by human power." What can you do, if the car's speed is 50 miles/h, someone starts jaywalking and you see an "immediate danger of a collision"? I would call the undertaker.

Posted 7 January https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64194407 A six-year-old boy has been detained by police after shooting a teacher in the US state of Virginia, officers say. The shooting happened shortly after 14:00 local time (19:00 GMT) at Richneck Elementary School in the city of Newport News, Chief Steve Drew said. It is unclear how the child obtained the gun, but Mr Drew said the incident was not "an accidental shooting". The teacher - who has not been named and is said to be in her 30s - was left with life-threatening injuries.

Posted 7 January From a friend of mine: Among the concessions just offered by Kevin McCarthy to right-wing hard-liners in his quest to become Speaker of the House: 1) Statues of Hitler and Jefferson Davis to be erected throughout the Capitol complex 2) Tucker Carlson to be given a lifetime House seat, right down in the front 3) Opening prayers before each House session to be replaced by cries of Sieg, Heil 4) Magnetometers that were previously installed to protect the House chamber after 1/6 to be replaced by mandatory issuance of AR-15s to all Republicans 5) Democratic votes no longer count 6) Votes from anywhere north of the Mason-Dixon line now only count as 3/5 of a person 7) Sean Hannity now tallies all votes 8 ) No funds can be appropriated without Elon Musk taking a poll on Twitter first 9) The Hastert Rule now applies even if Republicans aren't in the majority
