Atlanta police are investigating a shooting that has left one woman dead and another in surgery.

The reason for the shooting? Too much mayonnaise on a sandwich, police said.

Very sad story. I read another worker shot at the gunman, but missed. What’s next? Everybody carries a gun at McDonalds, workers and customers?

Meanwhile, a pickup truck ploughed through protesters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, hospitalizing one woman. The Cedar Rapids police department declined to comment on the incident. The state recently passed a law making it legal for drivers to hit protesters with vehicles in certain circumstances. Other states in the US have passed similar laws.

I read this, with disbelief,  in a Guardian article about "pro choice" protesters being attacked / beaten by, amongst others the police.

Now that in itself was bad.

The article from which the above quote was taken can be read here

The article explaining why vehicle drivers should be allowed to run over protesters : here

I'll be tearing up my US visa as a safety measure soon.

Reminds me in a way of the Blues Brothers:

I wonder if it works for pro-life protesters  outside abortion clinics.

You have to read the small print very carefully and apply it to a very specific type of situation. The word is not allow. That is already a simplistic misunderstanding. And sells copy.

Having said that lawyers are paid to corrupt language, cast doubt and find loopholes, so it will doutless be abused.

What makes me sad is that American (female) Facebook users I know have taken to talking about "camping" or "safe camping" (areas where abortions are still legal in the US) as code words in their posts, as Facebook is systematically deleting posts containing the word "abortion".

Facebook and Instagram have begun promptly removing posts that offer abortion pills to women who may not be able to access them following a Supreme Court decision that stripped away constitutional protections for the procedure.

I can't green @tor enough for the above post!!!

I exactly have that sinking, sickening feeling again that something large and important in the United States is about to collapse.

21 years ago, it was the Twin Towers.

Now, it's my legal rights. As a woman. As an American. My body no longer belongs to me.

And abortion might be just the beginning of the destruction. What's going to go next? Gay marriage, whatever is left of Obamacare, hey why do women and blacks even need to vote?!?

You said it my friends @tor and @Metall.  In Kansas there will be a vote on August 2nd involving a state constitutional amendment to completely outlaw abortion.  We remain eligible to vote there and I emailed voter reg in Lawrence (a blue island in a sea of red) requesting absentee ballots.  Should be receiving them today.  My friends are working overtime to try and get the votes out.  The slimy "pro-lifers" set this up during a primary election where voter turnout is low and they worded the amendment sketchily to make one think "yes" is the way to vote if one favors abortion rights.  They know no lows.  🤮

Eventually this could go down to a dismantling of the union. Repubicans start moving to some states, democrats to others, until one or a few states declare independence.
