Posted 24 Jun 2022 Yeah it's tremendously sad, but I suppose a lot of these things were there all along but hidden in plain sight to visitors like us and privileged natives (mostly middle class to wealthy whites) but they were swept under the carpet. This judgement today is a very public assault on the rights of a complete cross section of society, of course the wealthy from the redneck states will probably be able to travel for abortions. The poor will be compelled to bring the children into their poverty filled world, with fuck all assistance from the pro-birther cunts.

This will be very interesting and itself will almost certainly be subject to a supreme court appeal. In the EU women have the legal right to travel to avail of abortion services in other countries even if abortion is illegal in their own country.

Not in the actual decision but their intransigence in doing anything about the Supreme Court. Also Clinton warned in 2016 that Trump would fill the SC with right-wing judges but no one listened because her emails. Sorry but the USA has got what it has earned and I feel sorry for all the women, homosexuals, blacks and others over there. Someone with much better knowledge than me needs to explain how although the Democrats have a majority in the house and senate they appear either incapable or unwilling to pass any new laws concerning basically anything although the Republicans seem able to freely pass what they wanted when they were in power. This is the even scarier thing to come out of this ruling... Court 'should reconsider' gay marriage, birth control: Clarence Thomas (nypost.com) It´s not just the gay marriage and birth control that he specifically mentions but this bit... "In future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents". When you see what substantive due process is... Substantive due process - Wikipedia This could basically mean that it could end up with no American Citzen having any rights other than those a court (full of judges picked for their political leanings) decide that they can have. Strange that when many Americans are asked why the USA is the greatest country in the world one of their main answers is "our freedoms".
Posted 25 Jun 2022 I assume now that the courts have done this, they will be introducing laws for pre and post-natal healthcare for mothers, free childcare for mothers, free contraception and many other things that mothers and their child require.

Posted 25 Jun 2022 I found this pic on facebook, which states already had trigger laws to ban abortions immediately upon Roe vs. Wade being overturned, which are still likely to ban it and where it's allowed. My niece just posted something saying that in WA, even if you are under 18 and/or on somebody elses insurance, you have the right to an abortion there.
Posted 25 Jun 2022 Most can't afford to travel to another state for an abortion. I hope all of the right to lifer's daughters get pregnant. (Not really)
Posted 25 Jun 2022 If this were about babies, there'd be free universal health care. Free education. Free daycare. It is about power and control!

The Senate is currently 48 Democrats, 2 Independent, 50 Republican, so the Democrats do not have a majority. In order to pass a law, a simple majority of 51 votes in favor is required. If the bill is mired in stalling debate (filibuster), a 3/5 majority is needed to end the debate and approve the bill, or 60 votes in favor. The Vice President is the president of the Senate, but may vote only in the event of a tie. Sometimes, there is confusion associate with the title "Senate Majority Leader" and "Senate Minority Leader". Each party elects a leader in the Senate, currently Chuck Schumer for the Democrats and Mitch McConnell for the Republicans, but the Majority and Minority title follows the party of the POTUS.
Posted 25 Jun 2022 A couple of things in the news yesterday that stood out to me: - a protester with a placard saying that her dog now had more reproductive rights than her; - a commentator saying that women suffering miscarriages were now also at risk because the treatment for a miscarriage was the same as for an abortion and health care workers would now fear breaking the law by treating women suffering miscarriages.

And more, too numerous to mention. Quite a mess we are in now. 😔
