Half the weapons in America are owned by 3% of the population. They own an average of 17 weapons each.

Weapons need to be cleaned regularly r they can have a misfire with serious consequances. I wonder how many of those weapons have been regularly cleaned.

When a shooter goes on a spree it is not the gun's fault and the "guns don´t kill people etc" line comes out.

When an armed civilian kills a shooter it´s apparently because of the gun.

I´m not sure how the NRAs and the like mind really works.

"Guns don't kill people"; I like Eddie Izzard's take on this issue

In an incredible display of utter tastelessness, Donald Trump Jr. insisted in a rage-fueled video on social media Saturday that the Uvalde mass shooter could have killed 19 children and two teachers with a “bat.”

Assault rifles are being stigmatized when “screwed up people” are the real issue, he railed in a Facebook video.

Give a thicky a uniform and a gun... or even just a uniform. Have T shirt. Film brewing. Plot unbelievable but sadly true.

Apparently many police officers were outside the school in Uvalde but they waited and waited, did nothing for a long time.

How familiar😕

and much worse, inside the hallways, they waited and waited and did diddly squat. Pathetic and cowardly response that resulted in many deaths of innocents.  I anticipate a tidal wave of firings and lawsuits.  Unfortunately, no peace and closure will come to the parents and loved ones of the dead.

To be fair, it's not their job... It's nuts, but in America the police has no duty to protect the public!

I've heard about this before, but I don't have enough information to know it it's true or just an far fetched interpretation! But sounds nuts!

At least it would seem they can be fired, but not sued.

So all this Hollywood "to protect and serve" on the squad cars is what ?
Smoke and Mirrors ? Wishful thinking?

After reading the article, a little googling showed umpteen serious sources for the same message.

That is one crazy, mixed up country...

War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength. Protect and serve is to do nothing.

A more up to date article:

According to the United States Supreme Court, however, officers are not legally obliged to risk their lives for the community they swore to protect — despite the way their department’s motto brags about their duty to “protect and serve.”

Lol no but no one on here as far as I know is a trained and well-equipped police officer?

How do you explain the mother going in and grabbing her kids or the border patrol officer who went in without half the equipment the police had and taking out the gunman.

Why bother training the police for exactly this sort of thing?

When they sign up they know or should know that there are times their lives will be on the line so to say.

Do they give cops flak jackets, tazers, assault rifles and various other stuff just for traffic stops?

Now to your main point.

Why do you say they were in the dark?

They apparently thought the incident was over, despite during the time they were outside there actually being 911 calls from that very classroom.

Even if the incident was over you do not wait 45 fucking minutes for someone to turn up with a key.TBH if they thought there was some black bloke in there with a joint they´d have battered the door down and charged in.

The nature of the job has changed, certainly.

The only people who should be required to lay down their lives in the course of duty are the armed forces.

Job for the army... They were dealing with a lethal maniac. Their caution was understandable.
