There are around 18,000 police agencies in the US, but with no national standards on training, procedures and timescales vary across the country. On average, US officers spend around 21 weeks training before they are qualified to go on patrol. That is far less than in most other developed countries, according to a report by the Institute for Criminal Justice Training Reform (ICJTR). The report looked at police training requirements in more than 100 countries and found that the US had among the lowest, in terms of average hours required.
Posted 28 May 2022 The US has thousands of police organisations. Scotland has one. .. Besides guns, the police in the US, UK, Germany etc etc do next to nothing to enforce traffic law. They choose that thousands of people die.

Posted 28 May 2022 Question of resources, when the police in the Uk and here in RLP have over years had to put up with budget cuts and loss of personnel, they will prioritise. There's always a political element behind policing.
Posted 28 May 2022 @pappnase hence the apparently. Saw a video the other day about the length of training a US cop goes through and it is actually less than what is required to become a barber. Here you go, not sure how true this all is... States require more training time to become a barber than a police officer - CNN

One really fucked up country. When a shooter goes on a spree it is not the gun's fault and the "guns don´t kill people etc" line comes out. When an armed civilian kills a shooter it´s apparently because of the gun. I´m not sure how the NRAs and the like mind really works.

Perhaps it is best the ones in the US don´t do too many as many of the shootings of unarmed people seem to come about because of traffic stops. Sorry to do more criticising but... Mom Ran Into School, Pulled Two Kids Out During Texas School Shooting (insider.com) This bits good and is not worthy of any criticism at all... Another parent was pepper-sprayed as he attempted to get into the school, and a father was tackled by authorities, Gomez told The Journal. All those cops there and they had to resort to pepper spraying someone to stop them.

Posted 28 May 2022 there were a bunch of heavily armed Texas Rangers and law enforcement types around the Uvalde school shooting who waited for over an hour to confront the shooter. So we have to assume that they aren't the 'good guys with guns' the NRA is always talking about. And if law enforcement isn't the definition of a good guy with a gun, who is? Actually, when you read about it, they come off as a bunch of pussies. These guys make way more than they should for their training/education level and avoid doing anything actually dangerous. Much safer and easier to pepper spray parents, pull over cars driven by minorities and attack protestors than save children.

I assure you, this *will happen*.
