While not "educational" - seems "educational" is someone jsut trying to justify playing games - video games can be beneficial for children's brain development.  

Lots of studies have shown they improve and enlarge the brain areas responsible for visuospatial skills.  They are obvious pyschological dangers with games but that's not limited to non "educational" games btw

Another point in favor of consoles is that they are more social. You can play online pc games with people all over the world, but you're still sitting at a computer by yourself, whereas console games allow more social interaction and a shared experience with the people in the same room.
