Hasn't this thread kind of run its course? Jonny and Bear like to take their chances with Covid. The rest of us (if I have missed anybody apologies) prefer to take our chances with the vaccine. End of thread surely?

Fear?  With people I know struggling to breath in icu and others suffering long term disabilities after catching it, sure, only the very stupid wouldn't be fearful for themselves and their loved ones.

 

Would I bother with a jab against the current variants given I still got it despite having had 4 already and it was no worse than a mild flu, almost certainly not! Would I get another jab in the future in different circumstances if  the choice was between that or not being able to socialise fairly normally and being, quite rightly, branded as an anti-social deviant anti-vaxxer, then yes!

my children have just arrived home because their Hort ist closed for the week due to too many sick among the staff, no ifs and buts. It feels to me like 2020, it seems that everything is forgotten and parents can just stay home and take care of the children, why work for a living anyway. I’ve been canceling and postponing meetings left and right - so many presence appointments nowadays. Missing the days of Notbetreuung and Skype right now.

Oh crap, I feel for you. I wonder how many staff are sick and how many are just testing positive with mild or no symptoms.

I wonder when we can finally stop Covid-19 restrictions and start treating it like any other virus. We had to isolate my wife last week because she got infected. Not because we were worried about getting sick from her (we're vaccinated and don't care about getting the sniffles), but because we were worried about having to keep the kid home for a week or more and having to all be stuck in the house for the duration.

We managed to avoid getting infected, but it was a right-royal pain in the arse and would have been so much easier to just all be ill for 1 day and then go about our lives normally.

One should note that fear to die indeed caused the government do stupid things like imposing lockdowns, forbidding people to get a haircut, destroying businesses, and all in all it was for nothing: the virus spread anyway until the vaccine was created. 

 

There was neither Jonny nor Mr. HIV in 2020 protesting agains lockdowns, because they did not care. They are fine with terror, whether it is private by antivaxxers or government via mass hysteria.

 

I still remember being called "old people murderer" by the hysteric crowd just because I do not sit at home 24/7 and live off my savings. 

 

After the vaccine this nightmare is over, we can get back to normal. What Jonny and Mr. HIV likes want is back to 2020, lockdowns and mass deaths again.

Winter is coming and that's why (at my age) I got my 5th jab last month in preparation. Besides, I'm exposed 4 times a week to schoolkids, who come to my place for Nachhilfe, where I insist they and I wear masks indoors. All four have had Corona - two of them twice. So it's only logical that I'm careful. I still wear a mask when shopping, although most people I see (also oldies) don't seem to bother anymore. I haven't caught Corona so far and also haven't suffered any side effects of the vaccine.

That happened a long time ago, but the powers that be have all fucked off and so there is little anyone can do about it except move on and not participate.

Probably a wise choice, both the further booster and continuing mask wearing. I do feel that mask wearing is currently the best protection against covid, in my case I foolishly and against my better judgement stopped wearing a mask on the vaporetto in Venice(the views are so wonderful without a mask misting up your glasses)  when they dropped the requirement on the 1st October this year during a 5 day visit, 2 days later I began to feel unwell and tested positive the day following my return to Munich.

Although I greatly detest the anti-vaxx doubt and fear propaganda and those who spread it there is little doubt that the vaccines have not been a success, we all know either from personal experience or those of our friends and relatives that they have clearly not immunised us against the most recent more infectious variants and suggestions that they help moderate the seriousness of an infection are I believe not more than a never to be proved wish, though to be fair a much more likely scenario than the 5g chips and gene modification rubbish the tin foil hat brigade believe in.

Probably wear them when the rate of infections is high and not wear them when it is low.  I don't know man, it doesn't look too difficult to me.

I've not got a problem with it, especially over winter. Bit of added facial warmth!
Maybe next winter, rates will be low enough to not bother any more, but for now it's not really a hardship is it?

Absolutely with you on this - masking is no big deal.  Age brings extra health scares. I did work through SARS -1, and many of us became sick then. Not  an easy time.

I have given up on reading the 2 who seem so anti everything related to precautions.

We do have to learn to live with it, but it takes time for a virus to mutate to a level that does not kill so many.

I haven't even had a cold since Corona started. Probably because I wear a mask when shopping etc. Outdoors I don't. I have avoided restaurants and other places indoors except if there is a possibility for sitting outdoors. Maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe my precautions are just right. The rising numbers and overburdened hospitals have been in the news today.

Yes, colds and flu were way down during the mask mandate. Another good reason to wear one in certain circumstances.
