So basically from January all parcels entering the EU must have a HS code for each item inside.

Hmm so not a requirement for parcels going to the UK? If you purchase a DHL international package label online for the UK you have to itemise everything and list the weight of  each individually presumably for customs but I did not see anything assigned a code, is that because it is not yet enforced or is there a code for "gift" that covers the entire contents? I somehow doubt there will be a code for home-made apple chutney or porcelain Christmas tree decoration.;)

The article talks about SME, which is Small and medium-sized enterprises, so I guess that does not apply to gifts between various countries???

Was just played around with one of @Panda's link  Bulk mail services | Business | An Post

If I put in a package between the UK and Ireland, for gun ammunition

It returns

Ammunition

A suitable HS6 code is

930630

A suitable 10-digit code for IE import is

9306301000

A suitable 10-digit code for GB export is

9306301000

If I put in a package between the UK and Ireland, for human body parts

It returns

Human Blood

A suitable HS6 code is

300290

A suitable 10-digit code for IE import is

3002905010

A suitable 10-digit code for GB export is

3002905010

If I put in a package between the UK and Ireland, for Atomic bomb

Wall Sticker

A suitable HS6 code is

391990

A suitable 10-digit code for IE import is

3919908037

A suitable 10-digit code for GB export is

3919908037

So its seems to be quite comprehensive

So have to go, I think the police are knocking on  my door :)

As far as I understand, at present anyway, gifts between private persons going to the UK do not need the TARIC (or whatever the UK calls it now) number (but commercial items do). I think this is now changed on goods entering the EU however, even gifts requiring the TARIC. I know that An Post were rejecting a lot of stuff that only had an 8 digit CN rather than the required 10 digit TARIC number for import into the EU. This is all a pain, but the moral of the story is, don't fucking leave a single market that eliminates all this hassle for the people living within it!

Sold a few model railway items to a chap in Essex over Xmas. Previously would have cost €16 postage with no paperwork. This time €27 plus CN23 to complete and the buyer got stung for £60 VAT. Brexit benefits.

Yet nothing about all that extra money that was going to shore up the NHS.:o

They have actually got the 350m more but not due to Brexit but merely through what was required and would have been given anyway with or without Brexit.

The big problem with the NHS is how it is run and how the money is spent, the govt just doesn´t seem to give a fuck but uses it as just another distraction by saying that they give it enough money so not their problem.

It seems to be that for the last few months the Tories know they´re not going to get reelected so are employing a scorched earth policy.

And the FTSE did very well last year in comparison to DAX, CAC40, AEX, Dow Jones, etc.

Yes let´s not worry about energy costs etc are 4 or 5 times as much as Europe as long as the FTSE is doing well then everything is sunlit uplands.

I´m sure the thousands of people who can´t afford heating are content with their lot because the FTSE is outperforming everyone else.

Ever wondered why the FTSE is doing so well at the moment?

It wouldn´t be anything to do with those companies listed on it making record profits because of the way the UK seems to be working.
