Actually just 76,000 from Hong Kong which is only 3,00 more than those coming illegally in small boats across the Channel!

Also bear in mind that that 500K figure is net migration, actual immigration was 1.1 million which means approximately 600,00, ("educated, speak English")  people left the UK and BTW net migration with the EU is now negative!

Sorry but this was not some minor thing. Brexit and its repercussions very likely made the Danish news and him being a UK citizen was aware of the outcome and what it could entail.

Even if you did not know exactly what was going to happen you knew something about your status was going to change, so from the get-go you should have been keeping up with it via the UK embassy and the Danish authorities.

There is absolutely no excuse for it from his side.

There comes a time when you seriously have to stop laughing at the ineptitude and pettiness of this govt.

I always thought these were the exact sort of immigrants that the UK wanted, intelligent and more importantly paying their way.

But because Brexit fucked up and now more "wrong" immigrants are coming over the govt is basically cutting its nose off to spite its face just to get the overall immigration numbers down.

I admire your optimism and wish I could share it. It seems unlikely to me that the UK would be allowed to rejoin the EU with the opt-outs, e.g. non-membership of the euro, and that the UK, even Remainers, would be prepared to ditch the pound.

The UK won't actually rejoin the EU proper for at least a generation but the worst effects of the Brexit the Tories chose will be reversed as Brexit is reversed in all but name. The UK will rejoin the single market and customs union l, effectively ending Brexit as we know it as customs controls will end and freedom of movement in both directions will return. The UK will have to make contributions to the EU budget like Norway, Iceland, Switzerland etc. for the privilege of being in the SM but will have no say in how these contributions are spent. Then the dust will settle and in 40 years the UK electorate will be asking why the UK is not a full member, able to help shape the rules by which the country must abide.

Not sure I agree with that, it really does not matter what kind of brexit has been delivered or what a true brexit actually is. The bottom line is that brexit was/is a stupid dream and the people who voted for it made a very stupid mistake and are finally waking up to that!

As of 1 Jan 23 Cyprus will not allow shippinģ medication from non-EU countries like the UK. That's a problem for many British retirees.

Some found ways to achieve that. But a bigger problem is probably that not all medication is available in Cyprus (including the newer covid vaccines).  A pharmacist explained to me that for some drugs like e.g. sumatriptan (a drug against migraines) the regulatory price cap is so low that importers can't make a profit and therefore, they stopped providing it. When I had to get some for my girlfriend, I had to go to the Turkish occupied part and buy it there.

Speaking of Dover, P&O have an announced an end to foot passenger traffic from Dover so now Kent residents have an even bigger detour if they want to visit France (for whatever reason) seeing as Eurostar is not going to stop anywhere except the London terminus because of the onerous nature of passport and customs checks, that are down to Brexit. Kent of course voted heavily in favour of all this. It voted to make it much more difficult to visit a place 22 miles away.

Are they allowing bicycles?  I remember people buying totally clapped out bikes at ports to get round a ban on foot passengers.  DFDS take bikes on their Dover Calais route.
