Dental Emergency treatment coverage under Public insurance

8 posts in this topic

I lost a tooth from the front of my mouth, after a bad fall. It is an incisor & I guess it is a "necessary" tooth.

I would like to know whether replacing this tooth would be covered by my public health insurance.

Another of my teeth was also hurt & I had some basic treatment to rescue it after being referred by the Notartz. I  was told that I would need follow up treatments on this to save the tooth

Is this something which might be covered?

I already had the initial emergency  surgery. The doctor then said, that I would need follow up treatments with a dentist to replace one tooth and keep the other one in place.

I am covered by Technikker if that matters

Be aware that if was an accident someone else is responsible for he/she (or their insurance) will have to cover the cost even if your health insurance  shouldn't ( or not fully).

That is a good question. The OP wrote " after a bad fall ", possibly inferring no third party was involved - but you never know.

If a third party was to blame, the OP's public health insurer will chase them for reimbursement of the dental fees through their private Haftpflichtversicherung.

Even when the 3rd party is not to blame, his haftpflicht might pay.  A guest of a friend fell on his stairs and hurt himself.  His kasse wrote to my friend and stated that the guest had admittedly been drunk and that the fall was his own fault but still asked him if he had haftpflicht.  He asked why as he was not to blame.  The kasse replied that they have agreements with insurance to split such costs regardless.

OP, report your accident to TK and get a dentist to make an offer for the work needed.  The dentist will have a good idea on how much they'll cover but after getting the offer, you give it to TK and they will reply with how much they'll pay.  I'm in the process of getting two crowns and AOK is paying 75%

Thanks for all the replies!

There were no 3rd parties involved and I had a "medical blackout".  Not really sure why, it happened.  Luckily the  only major impact was on the teeth
