Reinvest in property

2 posts in this topic

Folks, If I sell a property for profit and invest it again in another property - I do not have to pay capital gains tax.

Was wondering if selling stocks and investing in property is also treated the same?

Appreciate any pointers.

Says who? Your profit on selling a property is only tax-free under certain circumstances - for example, if you used it as your primary abode for the required period or held it for more than 10 years. Whether you reinvest in other property is irrelevant.

Profits on stock gains are always subject to capital gains tax.
