"Industrial" plastic/cling wrap for moving?

4 posts in this topic

I'm going to be moving soon, and starting to think about some of the larger items I'll need to move. One in particular is a large mattress pad (memory-foam type), that doesn't compress very well. I'll be taking it with me on the train, so I'm planning to compress it as much as I can, and then using a sort of strap which can be tightened to hold it in a tightly rolled shape. However, I want to be sure it's not touching the train or ground while I move it, so I would like to wrap it in some sort of industrial plastic wrap.

I was looking on OBI's website but not finding anything yet - is there a German word for the type of plastic wrap I would need?

Not asking for general advice on moving (I know I can just hire a mover, etc.) - only asking question about plastic wrap specifically.

I'm not going to comment on the logistics of carrying a mattress on a train, but have you considered using large heavy-duty trash bags as the plastic wrapper?

Yes, it's called Palettenfolie (pallet wrap) in German!

I have rolled and wrapped mattresses numerous times exactly that way, works well for transport and storage.

Tightly wrapped, they are much easier to handle than covered with loose trash bags (tried that, too). Also easier to pick up when carrying.

Available on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.de/Stretchfolie-Verpackungsfolie-Transportfolie-Palettenfolie-Handwickelfolie/dp/B00TTYIW6M
https://www.amazon.de/V1-Trade-Stretchfolie-Transparent-Palettenfolie/dp/B07DHLCKYN

I know you can buy handles for rolling the wrap, but I stopped using them after a while, not really necessary.
Also check Ebay or large stationary stores like McPaper.

Not a full mattress, a mattress pad, once wrapped up it can be reduced to approx. size of a large suitcase.
