Bow and Arrow Rules in Germany

6 posts in this topic

I am trying to find out if there are any restrictions to owning and using a bow and arrow (for fun) in Berlin.

Does anyone know where I can find the latest information?

More specifically where can I shoot it? Can I just setup a target in a forest or area without many people?

You need permission from the landowner.

and a gaurantee that you will not injure or damage property which is impossible in such a wide open space with wildlife, trees etc.  Stricking an arrow in a tree is classed as damage to property, I'm not going to mention animals or even people.

Basically to be able to use a Bow and Arrow it's strongly advisable to join a club where there are fully trained advisers to help, assist and guide you and enough place so you can shoot safely.

Although a Bow and Arrow is not considered a firearm the 'Waffengesetz' still applies regarding the shooting of one.

If you want to know of some clubs send me a PM.

yeah, the Germans love safety.   Check out the range in Radeberg some time.  A Wanderweg goes right freakin' next to it.  One false move and "blam", could be a hiker you hit instead of a hay bale.

Health and safety in Germany! I saw a guy wearing Crocs on a building site a few weeks ago. Well I thought it was funny/stupid.

That is insane. When I worked construction, we had to wear steel-toed safety boots. I still managed to get a couple of rusty nails in my feet. Never broke a toe.

I do see most construction workers not wearing safety helmets here, though.

Back to bows and arrows.....
