In early 2020, a frustrated and furious Donald Trump described JoeBiden as “a mental retard” while struggling to cope with his own placement in early polls, according to a passage from “Frankly, We Did Win This Election”: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost, a forthcoming bookby senior Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender. The author notes that Trump vented his anger at the time by interrupting “a policy meeting in the Oval Office to ask, ‘How am I losing in the polls to a mental retard?’”

In another moment Bender writes that Trump held back on focusing his firepower on Biden during the primary stage of the election because he was convinced that the Democratic Party was scheming to switch out now president Biden for a different candidate—such as Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama—over the summer. The source of this conspiracy theory, per Bender, was Dick Morris, a former Clinton White House adviser who was “quietly advising Trump” last year. “Dick Morris told Trump that Biden was too old and too prone to gaffes to be the nominee,” Bender writes, while others in Trumpworld felt Biden would exit the race and be replaced by someone else if Trump began bashing him too hard. “Others said Fox News anchor Sean Hannity expressed concern that Biden would collapse under a sustained attack from Trump.”

According to Bender, Trump also felt that his attack strategy had backfired during the first stage of the Democratic primary. “The president, meanwhile, had often complained that his early attack on [Elizabeth] Warren had damaged her presidential bid, which he regretted because he viewed her as an easier opponent than Biden,” Bender writes. “Now he worried that a heavy blitz of attack ads would hasten the secret plot being hatched by Democrats, and his mind raced with who they might select in Biden’s place.” During a meeting held the month after the coronavirus outbreak hit the U.S., Trump expressed his Biden replacement theory to advisers, saying that Democratic leadership would “realize [Biden is] old, and they’re going to give it to somebody else. They’re going to give it to Hillary, or they’re going to give it to Michelle Obama.”

Schiff calls for inquiry after report that Trump DOJ targeted Democrats in Congress

Quote

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., denounced the "politicization" of government under former President Donald Trump on Thursday after The New York Times reported that the Justice Department targeted records of the communications of key Democratic lawmakers, their aides and family members.

...

The Times reported that the Justice Department subpoenaed metadata in February 2018 from the tech giant Apple related to the accounts of at least two Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, as well as aides and family members, including a minor child.

At the time, the Intelligence Committee was investigating Russian interference into the 2016 election and interviewing witnesses behind closed doors. Schiff and other Democrats on the committee became some of the most vocal critics of Trump in Congress.

Speaking late Thursday to CNN's Don Lemon, Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., said Apple had told him that his records, too, had been sought.

Apple notified some members of the committee last month that their information had been included, a committee official confirmed to NBC News. Apple also notified current and former staff members and relatives, including a minor child, that their information had been subject to subpoenas, the official said.

The committee asked the Justice Department for more details and was informed last month that the matter had been closed, the official said.

The investigation initially was launched, The Times reported, to find the source of leaks of classified information early in the Trump administration. Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions began the inquiry, and it was revived under his successor, William Barr.

The Times reported that, ultimately, the investigation did not connect anyone on the committee to the leaks.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., echoed Schiff's call for an inquiry into the matter, calling it a "weaponization of law enforcement by the former president."

A New Giuliani Tape Shows a Key Witness Didn’t Testify Accurately in the First Trump Impeachment

Quote

The testimony of a key witness in Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial is under new scrutiny by the House Intelligence Committee following a report this week that undercuts the veracity of his claim that he was unaware of a Trump effort to pressure Ukraine into mounting a meritless investigation of Joe Biden.

On Monday, CNN reported new details of a July 2019 call between Rudy Giuliani, then–US special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker, and Andriy Yermak, a top aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. During that call, Giuliani, then Trump’s personal lawyer, aggressively pressed Ukraine to announce investigations into dubious accusations about Biden and about alleged Ukrainian meddling in the 2016 election. Portions of this conversation have previously been reported by BuzzFeed News and Time, but CNN published the full audio of the 40-minute call. The recording of the conversation contradicts Volker’s sworn testimony to Congress that he never witnessed any attempt on the part of Trump and Giuliani to muscle Ukraine into launching an investigation of Biden, Trump’s possible opponent in the upcoming presidential election.

The discrepancy between Volker’s testimony and the recording of the call has drawn the attention of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who tells Mother Jones that Volker’s assertions to Congress amounted to “a disingenuous revision of history.”

A former aide to the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) who was appointed ambassador to NATO by George W. Bush, Volker is a foreign policy establishment figure who retains posts at a prominent DC lobbying firm and a think tank. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson picked Volker as a special representative to Ukraine in 2017, a nominally part-time job that overlapped with the duties of then-US Ambassador Maria Yovanovitch, who Trump later fired.

Alleged "Three Percenters" militia members indicted in new Capitol riot conspiracy case

Quote

Six California men, four of whom identify as members of "Three Percenter" militias, have been indicted for conspiring to obstruct congressional proceedings on January 6, the Justice Department announced.

The indictment, which was unsealed Thursday, alleges the group coordinated travel to D.C. with a stated intention to "fight," heeding President Trump's call to protest the results of the presidential election. Some defendants wore tactical gear and at least one, prosecutors said, carried a knife while he pushed past a police line on Capitol grounds.

The case marks the first conspiracy indictment filed against members of the Three Percenters, an anti-government extremist group that, according to the Anti-Defamation League, derives their name from an inaccurate claim that only 3% of American colonists fought against the British during the Revolutionary War, and likens today's U.S. government to British colonialism.

Not exactly what she said.

She said " "I guess they better arm up and get guns and be ready, and maybe they're going to have to start taking matters into their hands."

Legally there may be a difference but to us normal people there is no difference. She is encouraging them to stop the migrants with the use of arms.

Re-read the article and note that the term "against migrants" was added by the Journalist and not in quotes.

The area along the border is not the safest of places.   The residents are not necessarily afraid of or hateful towards migrants, but rather the shadier enterprises which operate in the vicinity with impunity due to porous borders.

See this nice overview from the FBI.

Narrator: The U.S. border with Mexico extends nearly 2,000 miles. And it’s along this expansive stretch of territory that drug cartels and their street gang enforcers ply a dangerous and costly trade.

Drug trafficking. Human smuggling. Extortion. Murder. Corrupt public officials. All these crimes represent a multi-billion dollar industry and they pose a threat not only to communities on both sides of the border, but to our national security as well.

You, fraufruit, and Janx Spirit were able to work in some half-hearted virtue signalling but as usual, it was based on an incorrect or incomplete understanding and an overactive imagination.

When are you going to visit the SW border, Keleth?    😂

"CNN's Barbara Starr speaks out on Trump DOJ accessing her emails"

Quote

CNN’s Pentagon reporter Barbara Starr said the Trump administration was manipulating both her and CNN when its Department of Justice secretly obtained her email records during its investigation into news leaks.

“I am not the subject of an investigation and there is no suggestion of wrongdoing,” Starr said in an op-ed posted to CNN Monday morning. “But as a CNN journalist, myself and my newsroom clearly were being used as a tool by the Trump Justice Department. All of CNN is in this together. We have each other's back, always.”

On June 9, CNN’s lead attorney David Vigilante told the network that last July the DOJ had asked CNN for thousands of Starr’s email records.

CNN had previously reported that on May 13 the DOJ told Starr that prosecutors gathered her phone and email records from June 1 to July 31, 2017.

“I am genuinely horrified by what happened,” Starr said about the revelations.

When the DOJ requested Starr’s emails, Vigilante said, he was placed under a gag order and could only talk about the probe with CNN’s president, attorneys of CNN’s corporate parent and lawyers at an outside firm. As a result, Starr did not know her emails had been accessed.

“I had absolutely no knowledge that there were secret court proceedings against me in 2020 until late May 2021, when CNN's most senior attorney, David Vigilante, was cleared to tell me there was a letter from the Justice Department waiting for me at CNN's Washington bureau,” Starr said in her op-ed.

So she wasn´t trying to get citizens to attack migrants she was merely encouraging them to grab their guns and take on drug cartels.

FFS I guess that´s fine then.
