Covid-19 Poll (UPDATE 9 Aug 2020: new poll questions)

Is Coronavirus a hoax?   77 votes

  1. 1. Do you believe Covid-19 is a dangerous virus and that the recommended measures are justified?

    • 1. Yes, 100%. I wear my mask, practice social distancing and and pay more attention to hygiene and unnecessary travel.
      55
    • 2. Yes, for the most part, but I do think some of the social distancing and hygiene stuff is a bit over the top. I'm OK to wear a mask in shops
      13
    • 3. Corona is probably just a bad flu. I wear the mask because it's easier than not doing it but I don't think it's probably really necessary.
      2
    • 4. Corona is dangerous primarily to the elderly, unfit, and immune-compromised. There's no reason to quarantine *all of us* for their benefit.
      1
    • 5. Bill Gates/aliens/lizard people/5G/the Chinese/Big Pharma/whatever. No to masks.
      2
    • 6. Maybe it's a real virus and maybe it's not but the government is abusing the crisis to take away our basic civil rights and freedoms
      0
    • 7. Roboter mit Senf
      3
    • 8. Yes, but I think the government is exploiting the crisis to distract from other problems.

For school aged kids, the risk of dying from COVID is lower than the risk of  dying from commuting to and from school

Yes, but is the same true for those to who they pass it on?

Paranoia much?

Nope just healthily cynical of people in power.

Yer perhaps you`re right they really look after their peoples when it`s going well so why on earth change when it`s going bad.

Doesn`t matter to Balticus as long as he sticks to Trumps preaching he`s happy.

Isolate the people who are vulnerable rather than everyone.

Easier said than done. We don´t even know yet the full list of factors predisposing you for higher risk.

That is not to say that there is no idea which groups have a higher risk.   There is lots of data.   There is probably lots of non-public data about the demographics of the people classed by severity of symptoms.

Here is something from the NHS which is probably not much different from most Health Ministries:

Just discussing the Christmas dinner with a group I'm part of, and I asked if it's possible for everyone, including staff to get a covid test ahead of time. That made me realize that this will be part of managing the pandemic regular Covid tests. At this point everyone is still hoping for a "cure" aka vaccine, but that isn't realistic. Unlike SARS there is simply no way we can defeat Covid anymore than we've defeated AIDs. We've simply learned to live with it. What I can see happening is an instant Covid test so if much like your bag gets checked before going to the theatre I can see you getting an instant covid test before a concert or football game. The way is to emulate what the porn industry does, every 2 weeks performers have to take a mandatory AIDs test. Man of man I never thought I'd be able to use that bit of trivia ever!!!!

They're going to have to do this soon as I don't see how any travel tourism/hospitality business surviving the winter!

If you're that concerned about being in a group, then stay home.  The test becomes invalid the moment you come into contact with another person.  Do you think the guests will be tested at the door?

Disregarding the Aids analogy I am curious to know what is your basis for that statement?

Exactly!

And to  Rush- no, we have not defeated Aids. We have been able to treat it with a drug combination.   Modified behaviour from vulnerable people, better testing of blood products, less use of whole blood,  centres for drug addicts/needle exchanges. Aids is also not spread in the same way as Covid 19 ( or SARS before).

So, truly a poor analogy.

Depends on if everyone in the group has been tested.

Simply learning to live with Covid could mean masks and social distancing for all time.

Despite your crap analogy "we" learned to live with  AIDS because the people in the risk groups were helped and learned how to change their actions that put them in a risk group.Masks and abstand could be the covid equivalent of that.My life during and after the  AIDS outbreak has not changed at all so "we" didn`t really learn to live with it.

American mid-20th century poet Delmore Schwartz had serious mental problems. His girlfriend said to him once, 'Delmore - you're such a paranoid!'

Schwartz responded, 'Even paranoids have real enemies.'

Yes, after testing it in 38 patients and before phase III trials have even started. Mindboggling.

As an aside why the hell is everyone NOW mandating masks when the death/inflection rates are falling. Why not at the beginning when it matter.
