Finding a house in Mannheim

14 posts in this topic

Hello,

I am moving to the Mannheim/Ludwigshafen area in first of July for a new job.

I am actively looking online for an apartment but so far I am not getting any replies and the posts themselves are not plenty.

I am using sites like immowelt, immobilienscount and wg-gesucht and facebook market.

any tips that someone can help me with? I would appreciate the help. Thanks!

Wait.  The market is frozen.

Is that your new strategy?

Pretending to be a real estate expert?

He still needs somewhere to live.

He needs somewhere to live in JULY.  In case you missed it, there is a global pandemic going on which is expected to lessen in the coming months, so perhaps waiting might be a good strategy - ya think?

He is not getting any replies and there are few postings = Market is frozen.  Even a real estate "expert" like you should be able to realize that.  It is not that he is doing anything wrong, it is just the current state of the market.

What was YOUR strategy again?  Oh, you didn't have any constructive recommendations at all.

ok - I don't know what your "parameters" are, other than Mannheim/Ludwigshafen area - so your mileage may vary, but when I just enter those search criteria into ImmoScout24, there are over 600 results.

Doesn't look like a real problem to me?

He starts his new job in July.

Do you think he should just turn up middle of June and start looking?

Probably beginning of June would suffice.  Many people don't even have an apartment when they start.  They either commute (if they can) or live in temporary housing.  Not really a big deal or all that unusual even when not dealing with global pandemics.

When the last time you rented somewhere or made an appointment to view?

Because your lack of knowledge on how and when to rent an apartment is very obvious.

How are you responding to the advertisements? I highly recommend you do so in German and add a (German) telephone number you can be reached at. If a telephone number is listed with the advertisement, call them, preferentially in German. In case you submit an actual application to the apartment, approach it like you would a job application.

Ok, I will bite.  Last October.  The time before that was 2015.

Now you -when did you last make an appointment to view an apartment?  Aren't pissing contests fun?

Now can you make your point (if you have one)
