Mold on bedroom walls

10 posts in this topic

I have a problem with mold around my bedroom windows. I have cleaned it myself last month and the mold never grew back. But the landlord insists that I still call a professional to resolve the issue permanently and also send him the invoices as proof. Am not sure why should I call a professional if the mold is not growing again?

Am not a member of Mieterverein. And am not I should get the member as I will be leaving the country in few days.

Am afraid he will somehow try to keep my deposit...

Can anyone please suggest how should I tackle this issue?

thank you Karin for the reply.

I moved into the apartment beginning of January. The apartment was mold free during the time. The mold only started growing mid March. So, I immediately send pictures to landlord so he can prevent it. But he said this is tenants responsibility and I should fix it permanently before moving out. The building is very old and there are also crack all around the apartment. I also saw mold everywhere in the basement where the washing machine is placed to which the landlord said anything.

I was ventilating and heating properly (Since I have stayed in 2 other apartments before and during which I never had any problem with mold).

for that reason alone it is in your own best interest to get a specialist to find the reason for that mold, because if the reason is the poor condition of that old house, your landlord will have to pay for the repairs.

The landlord wants to keep the deposit, so they have set you a task, probably knowing that you are leaving the country in a few days, a shitty thing to do for sure.

yes it was a huge mistake to inform the landlord in the first place!
The landlord never replied before when I had problem with a leaking pipe or mold on washing machine in the basement. But this one he immediately replied...

I have contacted a cleaning company to clean the mold which is not even visible now, just for the sake of getting an invoice, so that I can show the landlord the mold has been removed professionally!

During the handover the landlord did not say anything which was surprising!

but he still charged me 300 euros as supplementary costs
