Yeah, the interest got me like "is this even legal?" Of course it is, smiles the world of capitalism ;) For freelancers especially it's usually like "sorry, you're worthless to us".. which is a story in a story..

Anyway, we only have Berliner Sparkasse, one account for my wife and I.. so we have no other bank at the moment.

Thanks for the info! If I may: did you have a work contract, pension, salary of sorts when you asked and got credit?

My wife and I are freelancers 100%, not a huge income, 1 year of activity, no properties,聽I am seriously fearing that - regardless of our ability to pay the credit, which we would have - no bank is ever going to go past the hypocritical small talk. Unless COVID19 made them be a bit more adventurous.

I asked for 13,000 - it was 2 years after arriving in Germany and I had a residence that was renewed yearly. I was making 2000 a month 馃槵 i got this credit and was linked to a zahlenschutz in case of

loosing my job and death or sickness I dont remember. That extra I paid to

secure that credit was so worth it!. That insurance paid that credit for 6 months. When i was forced into taking integration course. Anyways just a bit of jnfo.聽

Many thanks. You are way wealthier than we are. I don't think we will stand any chance but we will try. Thanks again for taking the time to answer with your story and best wishes of serenity and prosperity (and money, because yes! we kinda need it ;))

Only the IBB can give you a status update on your application, however, while you are waiting you can try to apply for ALG II at the JobCenter.

So it seems I was put in a kind "sample pool" that will be tested more thoroughly. It's so great that my proverbial luck in life has never come to pass. Anyway (and more seriously): I'll keep you up when something new happens!

Did you apply for welfare benefits (ALG II aka HartzIV) as I suggested 2 weeks ago?

No, not yet confirmed but we've scheduled consulting online for it and we are proceeding into it... I've received contrasting opinions by my landlord, neighbours friends. Some even said we are not eligible (I think they meant ALG I which is something we are not eligible for, but ALG II is something we can do). After a lot of translations, asking to professionals etc. we are still only being influenced by the landlord (friendly neighbour too) that advised against it. We live in an apartment for 1150EUR-month, we also rent a place for 1600EUR-month. Both of us are freelancers and now are able to make only 500-1000 per month max. We have no other revenues.

What I am writing next might sound totally stupid and I am taking responsibility.. however: in 5 years I've learnt that I've always found some surprise in everything from the German laws that I've had to face.. accounting, taxes, freelance activities, rents, telephone contracts. Always something that "we thought you had known" or "it's normal here". We documented at the best we could always do and we read everything we could but still, fishy things (that the other party underlines as "perfectly normal and known to everyone") that surprised us and hit us kinda hard, each time. Then there's the second level of this.. which is "I did not tell you because I thought you knew". Which sums it up on top it.

I do not want to make it a statement of how things are, because this would be stupid.. and all I hear from people is happy and beautiful things. In fact they are prospering quite nicely and it would be tough to imagine everybody is lying hard because of how society works today. At least I hope not and I really wish people are as they describe themselves.

Why did I write this? Because it's the reason why it might seem curious to you that we "still have not requested ALG II". There's a weird feeling that only by super documenting ourselves will maybe go away.. that weird feeling that once again we'll get the surprise (the proverbial "lemon"). I told myself to avoid this at all costs in the future because it makes it easier, during difficult times, to get the idea that these issues are not caused by our lack of documenting but rather on racism and xenophobia, during an economic crisis that started in 2008 and that is making everyone just think about saving themselves, even if it is slightly on the back of some poorer and/or immigrant person. I refuse to think this is even minimally related to our issues and for this reason I document myself way more than I already did.

So, we're getting there :)聽I hope in some way this might look just a funny, overreacting thing. Because the feeling we got from the lemons is - I guarantee you - not at all fun.

Still nothing so far. No replies, no notifications, nothing at all. And obviously, no money. We stopped paying all rents, medical insurance and other things. Our bank accounts are practically non-existent at the moment but we are giving our best to continue working, in a way or in another. We filed for work, we sent CVs, we told politely to neighbors and such. We wanted to make sure people don't think we are evil or doing this on purpose.. we simply ran out of money but we have the best intentions at heart. I am confident things will be better and the moral support and hope from close friends is at least good for the mind.

Nothing wrong with asking, no worries. We are doing ok on fundamentally necessary things such as food. I cannot thank you enough for asking and for the sympathy. Hopefully this will not get "good" but better in a way that is somehow sustainable.

We cut every monthly expense I brought up above and we're focusing on the most important needs, including food.

Today both my wife and I received two emails each, referring to the second and third attempts at a request for money (after the site returned errors the first time and after for weeks we had not received any reply from IBB, and lots of friends and colleagues kept saying to try again and again).

The email says:

Ablehnung des Zuschussantrages

Ihre Antrags-ID: ###REDACTED FOR PRIVACY###

Sehr geehrte/r Herr ###REDACTED FOR PRIVACY###,

Mit freundlichen Gr眉脽en

Ihre Investitionsbank Berlin

However, my wife also received a different email, a third one saying that she has 24 hours of time to reply to that email with her most recent tax declaration and other identification documents etc.

About the above email I quoted: do you think ALL OF MY ATTEMPTS have been destroyed because of my multiple attempts (may I remind you that the second attempt by me was done because the first one said "for technical errors your form was not sent correctly") or do you think that only the multiple attempts have been considered null? (which would make more sense, I'd say).

I'll keep you posted on the mystery game of the century, won by Deutschland. (I know some people hate sarcasm and find it extremely toxic, but come-on, it's hard to keep all this acid in!).

My reading of the IBB's e-mail is that the multiple applications will be consolidated into a single claim, which must then be formally (i.e. by a human being) concluded. Whether that means payment is potentially still pending, I don't know. I'm still getting the same kind of runaround, but I wish you luck!

Thank you! Good vibes always help! I got a word with my landlord and he also told me the same: basically they are getting rid (but they have to do it formally) of all duplicates that people sent especially because they were getting no answer from the web site or via email and they guessed they had to try again. So it could mean, in a way, that the original attempt we did (which did not receive an email like that, quoted by its Antrags-ID) is being processed.

Also as I wrote, my wife received a request to send her tax declaration and some ID documents which means they are processing that. This request is for the 9000EUR request, it seems.

Fingers crossed, 9000EUR would allow us to cover the rent of our workplace - which was and still is completely empty as no work is being asked (but things are hopefully improve soon) and definitely offset the odds to a survivable extent. Hope springs eternal!
