My dog escaped...

5498F697-44A3-4ED4-B8FA-B681B56F1969.jpeLast night, we arranged to adopt a beagle from a rescue.  The beagle was living in Hamburg, and we are in Wiesbaden (Breckenheim).  A pet transport service was hired to bring the dog to us, since we aren’t allowed to travel because of COVID.

As the transporter was attempting to get the dog out of her vehicle, he slipped his collar and took off running.  He’s still missing. We haven’t so much as pet him.  He got out of the truck and took off before we could let him sniff us.

We have called the police, the vet, and left messages with two fire departments.  The Tierheims didn’t answer when we called, but we will try again.  We have also notified Tasso.  The dog was last seen near Wallau, but he couldn’t be caught.  He is chipped, but isn’t wearing a collar.

I’m spreading the word as much as I can.  If anyone in here happens to see him, please call the police.

Start looking for Facebook groups  for missing dogs in Wiesbaden. There is a group for lost and found cats in Munich (and area) and loads of people dedicated to helping people reconnect with their pets. Cats go missing much more often than dogs so I'm sure he'll turn up. Especially if he is chipped. Good luck!

How distressing, especially in these difficult times of isolation. Hope you find him soon. Put up posters on lampposts, perhaps, and as kitkat64 says, Facebook groups are excellent for this.

How tame is he? Do you think he will let himself be caught easily?

oh man - this is terrible!

Just wanted to wish you good luck and godspeed finding him

I am pretty upset.  He wasn’t sent to us with an appropriate collar.  The transporter had used one of hers and it was too big.  He backed out of it when she put him on the ground.

We went through quite a hassle to make this happen last night... even had to borrow our landlord’s printer and scanner so we could sign the contract and pay the fees.  After all the back and forth with the rescue— they even sent special diet food for him because he needs to lose weight— it shocks me that they didn’t at least throw in a collar that fit properly.

Hmmm.  On reading this I was reminded of an apparent scam a few years ago where a US lady inGgermany had ordered a dog online whilst waiting for her husband who had been posted overseas & was then strung along with the story ending that there had been an accident at Frankfurt airport & the dog had been run over.  However, the airport authorities had no knowledge of such an event & it became clear the lady had been scammed & lost a lot of money.

How much did you pay?

Sorry to say it, but I'm almost certain HEM is right. There was probably never a dog in the first place. This is a well-known scam.

That’s not what happened.  We actually saw the dog and he came from a legitimate rescue.  We just didn’t get a chance to put our hands on him.

How and when? Why didn't you take the dog with you right away when you saw it?

No, there IS a dog.  We saw him take off and he has been spotted.  My husband was standing behind the truck as the driver was getting him out of the back.  There was no chance to grab him.  His collar was too big and he slipped out of it.

We aren’t scam victims.

It does look as though there was a dog matching the description.

OP presumably the transporter takes the whole can for this - there is no way that delivery of a dog includes losing it at any stage of the journey. Not that that helps you get him back. At least there is less traffic around, so he might be safer.

Perhaps a local radio station would agree to ask people to look out for him.

Also contact the post offices in the area.  I believe most post offices and deliveries are still working. They are often willing to ask the delivery people to lookout for missing pets.

Radio station also a good previous suggestion.

So sorry this has happened to you, if not already done, Please contact the nearest the Rettungshundestaffel where the dog was lost. The dogs are trained for this!

Do they need a scent to follow for that?  Unfortunately, we never even touched the dog, so we don't have anything with his scent on it.  All we have is an opened bag of diet dog food and his pet passport.

No, we don't have the collar.  It belonged to the woman who did the transport and she took it with her.  My husband was preparing to put a collar and harness on the dog when he slipped out.  We never even touched him.
