Coronachat - vents, whines, flummoxes & miscellaneous

Going to put this here but no idea if it´s true or not but with the German angst about privatsphäre it does have a ring of truth.

Here in BW we do not get sent anything informing us that we are now eligible for vaccination.

Apparently what the powers that be decided that for them to inform us that we were eligible would mean someone looking at what illnesses we had without us giving them permission to do so.Also when you do register on the site for an appt you just have to say that you have something that allows you to be vaccinated even though you´re not in the particular group that is at the moment eligible,so because of this it is not like other states where you are given a priority number and move up etc etc.It seems to be that because of this you have people who get lucky with an appt who are at moderate risk so eligible getting vaccinated before people that are high risk.

The whole appointment shenanigans in BW seems to have been a total clusterfuck from the word go.

If you're at high risk, you get a letter from your doctor and you get moved up the list. At least, that is how it works here.

In Niedersachsen, the krankenkassen have recently started sending out letters that you are eligible.  This is done the same way they did when they were giving us free masks.  The authorities ask the krankenkassen to send out the letters to people with certain past diagnosis.  If you don't get a letter, you can still get one from your doctor.

I'm not at high risk, but have been seeing a specialist for follow-up on a certain condition, which requires regular RMIs, blood tests, etc.  I had never discussed vaccinations or appointments with this specialist, but late one evening this week she just phones me up out of the blue, and my wife answers. Long story short, she informs me I can get an appointment the next day and my wife - who is not their patient - gets invited to come along and get one too.

What's probably happening is that hesitancy to take the AstraZeneca is freeing up a lot for the rest of us who realise that the benefits outweigh the risk by a huge amount and just want to get vaccinated.

So if you have been putting off calling your doctor, do it now - you never know.

I want to whine and flummox about the usefulness of comparing vaccination data in the way generally done on the news, and here, and in casual conversation.

I am super happy for the small nations that have managed to immunize half their populations, that's dynamite, really, but then to compare a country with 10 or 66 or 4 million people by percentages with the EU seems stupid.  Right?  And the only country that's really far and away doing better than the EU is the US, due to their hoarding all their vaccine and thinking of America First™ which is short-sighted at best since the virus doesn't have a passport.

Someone explain to me why it's useful to go on and on and onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn about a country of 9 million immunizing half their population and shaming the EU for not being able to do the same, like, the size of the country differs but the time it takes to get a jab in an arm remains the same...

ALSO, (oh goody I do have a vent after all) can people PLEASE stop their fucking bellyaching and bitch-ass whining about how looooooooong everything is taking?

Compare WWII, it lasted officially for 6 years, was a hell of a lot deadlier and scarier, and life didn't get back to normal for a decade after that.

Or consider the myriad nations that live with civil war, poverty, drought, terrorism, "foreign intervention" and the lot more or less constantly.

This first-world whining about how loooooooooooooooooooooooooong it's taking, oh waaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh I just want to go the mallllllllllll, whatchoo mean I have to take a teeeeeeest?  Mah freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedumbs, duh economeeeeeee

The whinging is making me fucking ill.  Your corona life is STILL far, far, better than  80% of the world's population on THEIR BEST DAY so please try to keep it in some perspective.

Also, if we manage to never have to live through a ground war in our own countries, we can count ourselves luckier than a majority of people on the earth.

And yet here you are bitching about the price of cauliflower... get afuckinghold of yourselves.

rant!

If you mean how long are the vaccinations going to take then no I won´t stop bellyaching and bitch-ass whining.Germany is pretty much a disgrace in how it is being organised although it is getting better.

If you mean how long it is taking for things to get back to "normal" then I think some people are going to be in for a shock as I don´t think it´s going to get back to pre corona times for a few years yet.

but it's not like Germany is a "disgrace" overall in terms of human rights or offering its citizens an overall decent quality of life.

No but that´s kind of a moot point.

"There´s always someone worse off" was my mums favourite saying if something went wrong and that is true in respect of every other country compared to Germany.

I find it absurd to look to countries like the US

I certainly do not do that.Or to the UK who´s vaccination effort is better but who´s laughable response to the pandemic cost many more peoples lives than comparable countries.

I have my bitch-ass whines about everything everywhere but a lot of what's hampering the German/European vaccination effort is well beyond their control

It is now but it needn´t have been if they´d done it right at the start.

if I'm not mistaken you also were lucky enough to miss living through any real military conflict in your lifetime.

Yep,closest I´ve been was as a kid being evacuated out of Cyprus.

Everyone is doing this for the first time and I think it is really unfair and totally unrealistic to expect it to go smoothly or perfectly

No one does expect it to go perfectly, just better.

So I was checking, purely selfishly, if I can sail over to Denmark for the weekend.

As I live in Schleswig Holstein, I belong to a subset of the exceptions to Danish quarantine.

However, I came across this interesting exemption.

Seems that the Danish treat having had Covid on an equal with vaccination.

Not seem any reference to this in German rules..

Quote

If you were previously infected with COVID-19 and are thus unable to present a negative test, instead of taking a test upon arrival or after entry, you must present documentation of a positive COVID-19 test result that is at least 14 days and no more than 12 weeks old.

If you previously have been infected with COVID-19, you are also exempt from the mandatory isolation requirement. This is on the condition that you are able to present documentation of a positive antigen or PCR test for COVID-19, which, at the time of entry into Denmark, is at least 14 days and no more than 12 weeks old.

New mandatory testing and isolation requirements after entry into Denmark

(See under "previously infected with Covid" )

Ooh, me too.

I know a dude who was one of the meteorologists working all hours at the airfield checking flight conditions continuously to get everyone out.

My parents always said we were the last family out because they were so desperate not to go and kept giving our seats up to others who were desperate to leave... I was 3 and frankly can't remember anything much. Sad times.

I was in Turkey when the Cyprus war started... airports were closed and we were stuck in the country for a while. The Turks were very nice to us Americans, but the propaganda machinery (against Greece) immediately set into motion was... impressive. Not in a good way.

Met my trainer this morning, outside of course, and he explained that his perfectly healthy 23 yo friend and under 60 aged parents have already been vaccinated with Biontech.  The friend’s mother is a Steuerberaterin for several doctors within a set of small towns up the Bodensee.  One of them recently called her and said “Just bring the whole family over and I’ll vaccinate everyone.”  And we have elderly folks with walkers waiting at mass vaccination centers. 😏  I figured it probably happens, but it’s still a disappointment.

It's called Vitamin B = Beziehungen = good connections - usually job related but happens in all other areas, too.

Not surprised at all honestly, although I would love to see some repercussions as this goes against the rules/laws in place. As for the elderly... in my area 100s have not been showing up for appointments daily because they don't want Astra Zeneca. They don't even bother to cancel. That in itself is an issue. Would be great if they made some sort waiting-list.

My appt got cancelled because of some glitch in the system because of the whole astra issue. Have been waiting almost a month now for a new appointment after re-registering.

It doesn't surprise me.  There have been other cases of vacc. corruption.  Some town found that the mayor and all his staff had gotten vaccinated before they were even done with group 1.
