Ah, those nice Republicans have decided that as the figures go down,

they can do away with Social Distancing and pesky masks.

Or at least the Iowans.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds will lift the state's limited mask requirement on Sunday, along with the social distancing requirements and other COVID-19 mitigation measures she had in place for businesses and social gatherings.

Many states had already mask mandates for months before Reynolds ordered Iowans to wear masks in certain social settings in November. According to reports, 36 states still require people to wear masks, although North Dakota's requirement expired last month and Mississippi's mandate only covers counties with high virus infection rates

Public health leader: 'This isn't the time to let our guards down'

Lina Tucker Reinders, executive director of the Iowa Public Health Association, said Friday evening that Reynolds is lifting the restrictions prematurely.

"I don't think it's a good idea, to put it bluntly," she said. "We're not out of the pandemic yet."

How come the smart ones don't get to decide?

The fucking Supreme Court just issued an emergency ruling that it's cool to die for Jesus.

Darwin's probably rubbing his hands with glee somewhere.

Reframe that: Stupid people will risk death for centuries old conspiracy theories and death cults. People dumb enough to have meetings with other like-minded folks to chat with their collective imaginary friends might not be herd builders.

Check out the pre game partying going on in Tampa today. Bars open - no masks or distancing.

At least they are only allowing 25,000 in the stadium. :o

Government has spent nearly £2 billion on ‘crony contracts’ to Tory donors during pandemic

Quote

The government has spent almost £2 billion on “crony contracts” with Tory donors and friends during the pandemic, alarming Labour Party research revealed today.

Having put the total at more than £1bn last October, Labour’s new findings suggest that Tory cronies have since received almost another £1bn in Covid-19 procurement contracts.

The splurge came even after the National Audit Office’s warning last November that usual standards of transparency were being eroded and that firms recommended by MPs, peers and ministers’ offices were being given priority for personal protective equipment (PPE) contracts.

...and around half of them have failed to produce anything :angry:

I've always suspected those live subtitles are generated by some google app - without bothering to ask "Did you mean..." before exactly printing that no matter the embarrassment because time sensitive.

I've met people who professionally write live subtitles for events/conferences.

It's tremendously hard work, so there always is a team of 2-3 people swapping places every half hour. No way they can ask the speaker what he meant while speaking live, they have to guess sometimes or drop the mumbled parts.

Agreed.

But some errors are only explicable by automatic translations.

Just now:

"blubbern" -> "bluten"

"Molke" -> "Meute"

"Fett" -> "Bett"

Shorty recently had contact to an old acquaintance, who gave her all of her best tips for making a FFP2 mask more comfortable to wear:

- first tip being to take the first two layers on the insdie out of it, discard the second one, and put the first, soft one, back in - helps you to breathe more easily!

- second tip being to take a pin and poke lots of tiny holes in the mask, once again, to help you breathe more easily!

I can only say that I am flabbergasted!!!
