...and way more flummoxing than the recovery/isolation thing is that one housemate is a Covid denier, and has just cracked on and done her thing throughout the whole time :o - apparently she literally has never spoken to anyone in the building, just leaves her room, down the stairs, out the door etc and has never been in the shared kitchen or sitting room at all that anyone can remember, so her chances of having been infected by the Corona doctor are pretty much nil, since he isn't really there normally due to long working hours, but still, dude, play the game

Then the positive case needs to go knock on her door and introduce himself, clear his throat and sneeze a few times.

Apparently many people feel the need to play corona crush. A new game just launched in England whereby you go shopping for clothes in physical stores, surrounding yourself by as many people as possible on the last day before a lockdown.

Presumably these people need these new clothes to sit at home in during the lockdown whilst they surf the internet and order more stuff, including more clothes, from online stores.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-54807255

The next round of corona crush is due in January when a third lockdown in England should be announced after cases rise steeply in December, especially over Christmas and the New Year celebrations when ample mingling will take place.

The third lockdown of course will also not be good for the economy, as those all important January sales will alas be cut short.

Buy hey, on the last day before said lockdown takings will surge to make up in part for the losses, as people once again shop for clothes. :)

Tory-linked firm involved in testing failure given new £347m Covid contract

Quote

The UK government has awarded a new £347m Covid-19 testing contract to Randox, the Tory-linked private healthcare company whose testing kits had to be recalled over the summer because of concerns about contamination.

The deal is a six-month extension of an existing contract and was agreed without other companies being invited to bid. It means the health secretary, Matt Hancock, has now approved transfers of nearly half a billion pounds in taxpayer funds to the Northern Ireland-based company since the pandemic began.

Disclosed in a filing on a European contracts website, the award has prompted concerns about “cronyism” and calls for an independent inquiry into the £12bn spent so far on attempting to control the pandemic through the test-and-trace system.

Critics raised further concerns about a separate revelation that the Conservative MP Owen Paterson, who is paid £100,000 a year to act as a consultant for Randox, was party to a call between the company and James Bethell, the health minister responsible for coronavirus testing supplies.

So you're basically staying there long-term, nice. I the think the threat will be with us for a few years to come. ;)

Or at least when it is clear that your booked flight will take place, you don‘t have to quarentine, people can come here to look at the house and buy it etc.

We can‘t leave an unattended house long term here. Not with the climate here.. once the rainy season starts, ouch for the house...

Denmark plans to cull up to 17 million mink to stop mutated coronavirus

Quote

Denmark, the world's largest producer of mink furs, plans to cull all mink in the country to contain a mutated form of novel coronavirus.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Wednesday the decision had been made with a "heavy heart," but it was necessary based on the recommendation of health authorities.
"The virus has mutated in mink. The mutated virus has spread to humans," Frederiksen said

Thats a huge number of animals to be slaughtered and disposed of.

Didn't even know that mink comes from so many Danish farms.

I thought the main export was pork / bacon.

I wonder how many other mutations there are out there and in which animals and in which countries they are lurking. :(  All very worrying. Presumably any vaccine will only be the first strand and not the mutations. So if mutations spread we'll have the same situation all over again.

And what were they being raised for other than dead animal coats and such?

Or were they raising them to live out long natural lives is some nature preserve?

Exactly. The farmers are presumably a bit put out, but from the perspective of the mink, they were doomed anyway and living in rows of cages.

from what I heard they are especially raised to provide fake eyelashes :( so although it sad they are being euthanized I consider it better that this type of farming.

And in general  it has been the misuse of animal farming/hunting of wild animals that has co-created many virus's (Zoonoses) harmful to mankind - we are creating our own demise!

Oh man what a brilliant idea!

Universities are already ring fencing students minds lest they get influence by crazy dangerous radical ideas such as freedom of speech, freedom of thought, debate, democracy etc. but honestly, they really need to put up a firewall around the internet. Can you imagine the disaster if someone were to stumble across Lockdown Skeptics and started asking questions. Horrible!

Well Done Manchester Uni!
