This seemed as good a place as any to discuss non US or UK related international travel. We have a trip to Ireland* planned for the second half of August. Now Germany's new travel rules mean that if Ireland makes it to the risk list, then our 2 year old will have to quarantine for 5 days upon return...which sucks. Is there anything in the news about a potential reversal of this decision about kids quarantine?

 

At the moment Ireland isn't on the risk list though. Although I do have to wonder why. The UK, Spain, Portugal, France, Greece and Ireland all have relatively high incident rates, yet only the first 3 are on the risk list. Why is that?

Going to be flying next month, are masks still required? Checked Luftansa's website and it still states masks are mandatory. As most know the law was recently changed so masks are no longer required. I assuming that they simply haven't updated the website.

The law sets the minimum standard, the carrier sets the actual requirement for their flights. (Oh and the law at the destination will also form part of that decision).

If Luftansa say you need a mask, then you need a mask.

 

I didn't need one last week with KLM to Singapore but you might with Luftansa to wherever you are going.

 

Call them and ask if you are really concerned, or just take masks anyway.

A friend of mine who is cabin crew with Eurowings recently told me that as of 1st October masks are no longer mandatory on bord.

Wether this is for ALL destinations I cannot be certain - he knew I was travelling to Mallorca.

I took a Fly Egypt flight 3 weeks ago we had to wear masks until the plane crossed out of German airspace, on the return no masks were required but that may have been down to all the crew being asleep, they did not even do a check that seatbelts were fastened for landing. Crappy airline!

We flew Lufthansa from Munich to JFK yesterday and masks were officially still mandatory. Almost everyone was wearing them on board (and wearing them correctly, too!) except for a small group of Orthodox Jews. The flight attendants did speak to them a few times, but they pretended not to understand. The flight attendants told us they have instructions to request passengers to wear masks, but they don’t want to enforce it at all costs.

 

I think starting October 1, masks will no longer be required on Lufthansa. We will continue to wear ours on flights anyway. Definitely better safe than sorry.
