Cancel holiday over corona virus?

This is a deeply personal question, nobody can answer the question but yourself.

 

I wanted to go visit my mother, in end October, but I feel there is too mush risk, other people in my office are going in 2 weeks time.

 

I have asthma and am in at risk age group, so its not for me, but other people will think differently to me and there is nothing wrong in that

What would be involved in regards to getting tested before you go, when you return and quarantine on either end? That would affect my decision.

Mrs.Merkel has asked the people not to travel. You might have to stay in quarantine upon return for 5-10 days.

 

I came back on October 8th from the Netherlands, also a risk area. Definitely my last trip of the year.

Well, I had a quick five minutes of being sensible this morning and took the time to cancel both my flight and my hire car.

Feeling a bit sad about not being able to visit friends and family, but their safety is more important.

My partner Nicole is catching a 6 am flight from Hamburg back to Crete this coming Sunday. Hope she makes it in case the Greeks panic and close down Athens and Heraklion airports. Corona here .. corona there.

Plus the air traffic controllers are doing daily strikes for several hours a day right now.

And there‘s the clocks going back early Sunday morning to mess the metabolism about!😜

I am going through something similar to Rob. My parents are due to come to Munich this weekend (Thur-Tues). Their region of England is not currently classed a risk area by the RKI and so, for the moment, we're sticking to the plan. Airport pick up - Our house for the whole time - Airport drop off. But what happens if their region of England gets classed as a risk area once they are already here? Will they be allowed back to the airport on Tuesday to go back home. I can't seem to find that info.

Why are people doing weekenders to distant places (or near places, come to that)? Do they still not get it? I had the virus in March - moderately, although I was in a bed a month at the beginning - and can only now, 6 months later, say that I am o.k. (I think) again.

Too late now, but they needed to do a test 48 hours before their trip, bring the (negative) results with them written in English or German and (for München Kreis at least) fillout and submit an online Meldenbogen after arrival. With this they're free from having to  Quarantine. My own parents are flying here from Lisbon in a couple weeks and I just received the information from the Landratsamt München.

I hope you are enjoying the view from your high horse. This is not a jolly boys outing. Best not to judge without knowing the circumstances. I thought you of all people might get that. We're following the rules and have been hunkering down since march like everyone else.

 

I lost a friend to covid in the first wave. I know this shit is real.

Cheers. That is indeed good advice for the future. However, in this case, the new zone rulings don't come in to effect until midnight tomorrow so no testing was required. It's all about time of entry. It seems as long as the return flight is still on then there's no problem.

My oldest son and I took a short trip to a neighboring country via airplane last week (Wednesday evening to Sunday evening).  Stricter lockdown rules went into effect on Thursday (for both the neighboring country and Germany) and the neighboring country was classified by RKI as a risk area.  

 

When we came into Berlin Tegel, we expected something, but we simply walked out of the airport with a piece of paper we had received on the plane about self quarantine for 14 days and a link for free testing if we would choose.    There seems to be no enforcement and no tracking mechanisms.

 

My son was tested so that he could prove that he doesn't have COVID and get on with his life.    The "free" test for people with private insurance is 88 Euros and the online/email web app has room for improvement (to put it mildly).

I was meant to be I the UK this weekend but it ended up getting cancelled, not because of corona, but because the opening of BER had been put back a week so there was no where for it to fly into haha.

 

i am going in two weeks instead. I said I wouldn’t get on a plane in all this, but we decided my mental health is more important, plus my Nan is in her 80s and I want to spend as much time with her as possible. I will be flying in what is essentially a hazmat suit, visor, mask and gloves. All will be binned once I leave the airport before I get in the car. 
 

The hardest part will be going door to door without needing the bathroom.

Not joking here: if you're serious about this, buy a small pack of adult diapers, use one each for the journey out and home. They should be good for at least 2 number 1s each.

Depending on how long it will take to get to and from the airports, waiting time and time of day you travel, you may be able to  not drink too much the day before and just have a very small drink a few hours before you travel, then it is possible to go 6 hours without needing the bathroom. I did that before my last trip (drove and used eurotunnel so only got out of the car to put petrol in from a can I took), and I managed 9 hours but I was lucky in that I only had a short drive the other end!  Obviously it will depend on your metabolism but it may be possible with care. You could also take plastic covers for the seat, and use gloves for the doors do that you do not touch anything.

Why would that stop bathroom breaks?! How do you think we cope as medical staff- just do the hand washing etc.

Limiting fluids not a good idea when flying, sitting for long periods. Just use common sense.

Because the suit is essentially a onesie, it  has a sticky strip to seal it so to pee I’d have to completely remove it which would defeat the point of wearing it. Getting to England without peeing will be fine, it’s just the journey on the other end that I have to plan for. I’ll be completely fine, it’s a 90 minute flight so it’s not like I would usually drink on it anyway.

In general, citizens of a (civilized non-despotic) country cannot be barred from re-entry. If they are British, they will get back in no problems, but then it's a matter of quarantine and testing.
