Cancel holiday over corona virus?

I have a cousin working at customer helpdesk in Lisbon's airport. His advice: NEVER book on Expedia or similar! If something goes slightly wrong with the flight, you are fucked!

Regarding Ryanair, I had a cancelled flight 3 years ago. They treated us like shit, no hotel, no transport to town, we were kicked out of the airport. They refunded the tickets, but gave no compensation. We used Airhelp and after a year we got our compensation, although of course Airhelp kept a percentage of the refund.

Ryanair, never again!

Expedia finally sent me a voucher per email. I wrote back and said I wanted a refund. Crickets. The voucher is only good until Dec. 31. If I use it to go home for Xmas, I won't be able to stay for New Year's, too. Argghh! Oh, and they didn't say whether I need to book through them again or the airline.

You need to keep calling.  As I said previously, LH is deliberately making it difficult to get a refund.  Don’t let them win.

Thought I would try calling the Lufthansa help service in the middle of the night but after an hour of waiting in a queue I gave up at 01:30. Also tried complaining that there was no option on their website to get a refund with the online customer feedback, but that does not seem to be working. Bars#!+$%.

Update:-

Earlier this week I got an email confirming that I will get a refund for the cancelled holiday in Egypt in the next 10 days, it has not yet arrived, waiting and hopping...

Today I got an email from Lufthansa saying there had been a change to my flights to the UK in May, with a link to their website for details, where it said one of my flights had been cancelled and I should phone their service centre, there was a further link for more details but that just shows the there and back flights booked with no indication of change or cancellation. Tried phoning the service centre but after some wait I got a recording saying get off the line unless your booking is for the next 72 hours (or words to that effect)!!!!

All I can find on the LH website is options to rebook and claim the €50 Euro discount, nowhere to claim a refund. Anyone got any other info on getting a refund from LH?

Well for the Egypt part thats really great news!!

No idea but that is usually all I ever book through them. I do want to go home anyway. I book my rental cars from German sites - sometimes Check24 - much cheaper and with plenty of insurance included.

Lufthansa claim their service line is open 24/7.

Checked out re-booking but the exact same flights in October this year would cost €60 more, so even with their oh so generous €50 discount for rebooking flights for 2020 it will be more expensive, so they can stick that where the sun don't shine! I want my money back!

Sure, they can get you good prices but they don't help you either when something goes wrong.  Someone I know booked a rental car through check24 with a prepaid credit card.  The rental was fine to withdraw the money from it but when he arrived to pick up the car, they refused him saying it's not a real credit card.  No car, no refund.  No help from check24 either.  He even had the insurance for 100% refund if you are not satisfied.  But of course he couldn't say he was not satisfied with the car because he never got it.  But at least it was cheap and he only lost about 40€

I used different German sites, not only Check24 who did get my money back once when I had a flat and had to replace the tire myself. The car rental company wouldn't help. Forget which one, maybe Enterprise.

I usually rent one for 4 wks. so I shop around a lot.

I would probably use them too if they were a lot cheaper.  As for flights though, in my experience, you don't save that much by using a booking engine.  I often use them to find which airlines are flying where I want to go and then check with the airlines directly and the price is usually close to the same.  We still didn't hear back from opodo by the way.

I've said that, so many times! I keep breaking my vow...

Ryanair actually worked well until 2017. You were treated like garbage, but they were on time. Somehow, something changed in 2017 that on my typical flights (Munich/Nuremberg to Porto/Lisbon/Faro) they started failing flights. And that one was the last drop! Never again and having been keeping away for 3 years.

I have a real problem with people ALWAYS looking for the cheapest thing on the market. Remember the old saying, "You get what you pay for?". This herd mentality is stampeding the whole world into the acceptance of low quality products and services and driving good companies into liquidation. In my opinion, these kind of people deserve everything they get..
