Carsharing in Berlin: Your thought on this!

5 posts in this topic

So my neighbours,

you have already seen them, I am talking about the compact cars in your neighbourhood, which even you are allowed to drive. License, smartphone and some cheddar provided ;)  The majority of these cars also run on an electric motor, which I personally find great. A big goal behind the car sharing idea is to reduce individual traffic and thus have fewer vehicles on the roads. We are talking about an alternative that has its right to exist alongside public transport.

Nonetheless, I am somewhat sceptical as to whether something like this will become established here in the big city of Berlin. With the metro or the S-Bahn, you can get anywhere, and faster than by car. Those who already own a car will not switch to car sharing completely.

Will it remain a niche product? What do you think of the idea? Have you ever driven one of these cars? What is your opinion?

Hey Toni, I think this is a great idea in more rural areas but in Berlin city itself I don´t see the concept taking off. As you said the public transport is so good it would make more sense to utilise that service. However in small towns where there isn´t as much public transport I definitely think it would be used.

Am I in the Twilight Zone?  Is this a time travel machine and we are in 1999?  Car Sharing is pretty successful in Berlin since long time ago.

Right?

of course people living in cities sometimes would like to have a car.

For any number of reasons.  ask me about how much fun it is to carry gardening supplies home by ubahn or - god forbid - bus...screw that.

as Krieg says it's a done deal.  It works.  Lots of experiences/reviews already in other threads.
