Yes and has worked but as previously stated, he dropped the ball with the Arbeitsamt

Then AFAIK the JobCenter can't turn around and make you repay his benefits.

This involves the Sozialpsychiatrischer Dienst and as mentioned, can be a can of worms...

Have you considered first trying with a Beratungsstelle from a NGO? They might be better qualified to suggest other options in your area.

Can`t help but wonder if you couldn`t have a word with his GP about the whole situation? or even get him to go along and have a bit of a chat?

If the GP were to diagnose depression, it might help with the Arbeitsamt situation.

I am sorry to hear about your son. Has he always had that depressive streak or is that a new thing? Maybe you dont want to answer this here since ist very personal Information. If you possible try to get him outside as much as poasible for walks. Any sports is helpful against depression.

Hi Oh Wise Ones, I'll try to keep this short.

My son, 24 years old, German national. Gave up his job last year without any notification. I only found out because my phone was listed at the company as a contact number and they called to ask where the hell he was. He never bothered to register as unemployed because he planned to visit Asia for a few moths. He didn't and now the KK has cancelled or (Ruhen Ihres Leistungsanspruches) because of non-payment of contributions. He still refuses to register as unemployed.

He is suffering from depression but won't let anyone help him, refuses to see a healthcare professional and is living off my dime.

I've tried talking, cajoling, threatening and have told him that he has to go and stay with his grandparents as I can't afford to have him here and not paying his way. It's breaking my heart.

Any ideas anyone?

You have to let him go .  Sometime people are beyound saving . I am sorry to say this but you have to kick him in the streets and cut your losses if he is over 18 years old.

No helpful suggestions, Janx, but just to say that it sounds as though you have done everything you could, and that you are not alone - hopefully one of engelchen's NGOs will open up a new possibility. Maybe the grandparents can take those suggestions on.
