Mietschuldenfreiheitsbescheinigung Price

5 posts in this topic

My current rental contract ends at the end of March, as the owner is apparently moving back in, so I've started looking for a new apartment.  I asked my current rental agency for the Mietschuldenfreiheitsbescheinigung and they told me that I have to pay €25 for it.  Is this standard?  I haven't seen an cost associated with it anywhere when looking it up so I assumed it would be free.

Unless your current rental contract states in writing, that you are entitled to a free "Mietschuldenfreiheitsbescheinigung" upon end of contract, you will have to pay for this extra service.

Your landlord is under no obligation to provide this "Mietschuldenfreiheitsbescheinigung" - you're lucky they only charge 25,-€ for it. Up to twice as much is common practice, especially if you live in an area where landlords frequently ask to see that paper before renting out to you.

I’ve never had to pay for one either.

Given apparently the owner is moving back in and you aren’t leaving of your own volition, it would be in their interest to give you one.

Also, good luck finding somewhere in Berlin in 3 weeks.
