Mathematics help needed

41 posts in this topic

OK... So here we go... my ex is kicking off again...

I am now to "Step up to the mark" and help my daughter with her German and Maths homework...   ( Yeah, like fuck.  IF Lilly gets it wrong, of course it will all be my fault!... )

So..I will tell her mom to fuck off with the German homework and I will do the English with her!

As for mathematics...  Well my maths is a good a my Speling!

Therefore, I need a little help...

"Runde auf Zehntausender" is one of the listings...

99.970=

317.591=

Then further down the page...

   1000000

-      71982

     410213

---------------

Please, can someone point me in the right direction?

Over the years quite a few of my Nachhilfe students for English also additonally took Maths Nachhilfe, so I would suggest you engage someone to help Lilly with her Maths. One of my older students did this for younger students for extra pocket money.

Spider, it's not Run it's "Runden" as in Round the number to the nearest 10000...

For 99761 that would be 100000

For 94999 that would be 90000

Not rocket science

If you emter "RUNDEN AUF 10000" into Google you get links to YouTube tutorials

Hi Piggy, I has sent this on to Shorty as she is now studying maths.

Must say that Bramble has a point - if Lilly had Nachhilfe, you would be off the hook!!!

I know you didn't ask for suggestions, I'm going to offer one any way as  a good resource for math self tutoring that I use to teach myself math. ;)

Khan Academy Rounding numbers to the nearest thousands.

Khan Academy is an award winning tutoring site that is a great resource for math and other subjects and best of all it's FREE.

Yes.. Sorry that was a typo from me sorry...

In England, we use a Coma and not a full stop to represent "1000s"...

Thats why I left them out...

Lets say we're handling money

Devide the number by 10000, Round to a full Euro, multiply by 10000, Job done...

I suppose part of my problem is not being able to read German that well... so I read it slowly and it tends to lose its intension...

If someone talks to me, they talk faster and the words that fail me, I can often "Fill in the gap"...

The bit that really sticks in my craw, is the fact that I am letting my daughter down...  ( Even though she is top of the class in English!)

94,999 rounding to the nearest thousand  should be 95,000 not 90,000.

As 95,000 is the nearest thousand to 94,999.

Rule: When the number to the right of the "4" is  5 or greater 94,999 is rounded UP to 95,000.

They are not asking for it to be rounded to the nearest thousand but to the nearest 10 so allowed answers would be 90,000 or 100,000 whichever is closer.

Jesus H. Christ, the question clearly was "round to the next tenthousand", wasn't it?

Does anybody know what the lower half is?  I could not even begin to guess at that.

Like this:

   1000000

-      71982

     410213

---------------

None of the examples here have a + or - before the last number.  Surely this is something the teacher has shown them and is possibly explained in the textbook but definitely nothing I've ever seen before.
