Health insurance not paying sickpay benefit

16 posts in this topic

I've been off work now for 3 months with a debilitating illness and can barely spend any time upright. I am being jerked around by my Health insurance for sick pay and have not received anything from them yet. I keep being told they'll call me back or that they'll speak to my employer about the wage calculations. I even got the calculations and sent them myself but they still say they don't have them.

This has been going on since mid october and I really have had enough. I have to travel to Munich for specialist treatment as it can't be done locally.

What can I do , can a lawyer help or is there an organization I can contact such as arbeitgericht but for health insurance .?

Sorry but if you cannot work you need to go to social retirement... pension ...etc. We all cannot pay for your sickness ...sorry. The social insurance system is streched to the limit :(

I’m entitled to sickpay I’ve been paying my insurance for 15 years! I fully intend to return to work when there is an improvement in my condition.

There is mdk which is a neutral govt thing which decides in disputes between patients and insurance. I have had my KK take me to mdk twice over something my KK didn't think they should pay for and both times the mdk took my side and the KK paid

Please ignore TraceKira.

He's one of our resident right wing hypocrites.

(He talks a big game now, but he was very interested in keeping his refugee girlfriend who had entered Germany illegally from Hungary here, and has tried to game the system to his own advantage multiple times. Just saying.)

@Kase:

Can you read German? (Else use an online translator)

This is a link to the government organization to complain about the Krankenkasse.

I haven't tried them yet, so please let us know how you fared:

All the best.

The first few weeks of sickness are usually paid for by your employer. After that your Krankenkasse should send your employer a form to fill in about how long you have worked for the company etc and also what you earned each month. You cannot do this yourself. The feedback from this form is used to calculate the amount of money you will receive from the Krankenkasse.

Please check:

Did you send all your sick notes on time to your Krankenkasse?

Has your Krankenkasse sent this form to your employer?

Has your employer received the form and sent it back to the Krankenkasse?

BTW :Please ignore the hurtful statement from TraceKira who has -105 red points.  He clearly has no idea about how  German Health Insurance works.  It is based on a solidarity principle, our monthly contributions go toward people like you who are really ill and need help ( and that is good so) but also to my fat neighbor who smokes likes a  chimney and wonders why he is always short of breath.

Apart from the excellent advice others have already given, you could send a letter of complaint to the Manager of your Krankenkasse.

Wishing you all the best and please keep us posted as to how things develop.

Slightly longer than snowingagain‘s post but equally excellent and definitely helpful! ( I love your „ fat neighbour „ reference!! )

Thanks for all replies with the exception of TraceKira.

The insurers have everything, all sick notes and the employer wage calculations. I’ve even sent the wage calculations again myself which I got the employer.

Going to call them tomorrow to see if they are still using the same excuse and the complain.

i applied for sickpay on 10/10/19

Yes, McDee! There is a world of difference between someone selfishly playing the system and deliberately not paying their dues and someone who IS and falls ill.
