Max...chained for the first two years of his life outside..he didn´t know what Gassegehen was when we " found him " here. He had never once been left out. Hint: the woman in the village has a big garden at the back. Who cares?

Lea, abandoned by Athenian tourists and left pregnant on our local  beach. Our local shopkeeper´s wife threw stones at her on the beach...

Safely in Germany and with a wonderful family there after a year with us.

God, I miss her.

Sorry if I am being over-nostalgic this evening...this topic really gets to me.

You can´t go anywhere within a one mile radius without seeing yet other abandoned dogs, chained-to-their-neck dogs 24 hours a day outside etc.

So, so,sad. Aren't there any RSPSA like organisations there?

That´s exactly the reason why my girlfriend doesn´t want to move to Cyprus - once she´ll be free to do so (currently she still has to care for her mother).

What about spending summer (that´s when Crete might be too hot) and winter (that´s when you´re probably missing decent heating in Crete) in Hamburg and spring and fall in Crete?

It might be to do with money. We can't all have 2 places.

If you have read any of john g's post over the last years you would know that the answer is NO.

You don´t necessarily have to. You could also look for someone to swap places with. Just google "Haustausch auf Zeit" and you´ll find e. g. this.

Thinking about it I might consider that as well. Problem is that I´d have to tidy up my place for it:ph34r:

So we went to the beach this afternoon to meet some friends and have a beer or a coffee. A Greek guy on a motorbike with a  bag. We saw him as we arrived but thought nothing of it.

Time went by..our friends came with their dogs and we had two..but who are these guys?

Yep, abandoned.

We will try to sort it out along with other friends but jeez..wtf?

Yeah, but insulated houses and central heating.

Greeks build like there's never a winter. So you end up moving your space heater from room to room.

Did you really beleive that was or is the reason?

The biggest reasons are two; Spider.

the treatment of dogs everywhere you move

(not yet but in sight who knows when ): health and the general infrastructure.
