You really are a Tesla fanboy shown by the fact rather than prove how wonderful Tesla are you would rather show how bad others are.
Posted 22 Nov 2019 Oh boy, Tesla just revealed the Cybertruck and the thing is... UGLY AS HELL :/ I know trucks are supposed to be ugly, but this is beyond ugly! https://techcrunch.com/2019/11/21/behold-the-tesla-cybertruck-is-here/ Worst, they managed to "Bill Gates" the presentation by having not a blue screen, but a broken window! Tesla workers have stock options. They are "mini-owners". I know your socialist view has some trouble understanding this, but business owners do have to work harder when times are dire. They worked harder, now the stock is worth more. 1 hour ago, Keleth said: And your point ? My point is that despite hearing some bad news reports (AKA Tesla clickbait), why do those people refuse to unionize or strike? You don't need a union to go on strike, yet these people don't use their right. Perhaps because the vast majority does not feel they need to. 1 hour ago, Keleth said: Yer unions are such a bad thing. In my personal experience, yes. But let's not go again into that.

Posted 22 Nov 2019 Cybertruck is mega-ugly. It looks like from an 80s movie called CYBERTRUCK. It seems Musk abandoned the key for EV success, EVs don't have to look different from normal cars, and we all know what happened to e-BMWs. He says he doesn't care if people do not like it, let's see what happens.

Ouch! I would not be surprised if the broken window was deliberate as it makes all the media channels. If anyone has remembers Wheels by Arthur Hailey, they were talking about deliberately introducing ugly cars at the end of the novel, maybe that's how the Tesla board meeting went. I think, yes, it's ugly in a way, but also it has straight lines which you don't see so much in modern cars. I think there will be a market for it though - hipster yuppies who secretly want a pickup truck but would not be seen dead driving one. May be a niche market but Tesla is a niche brand and will probably remain so.
Posted 22 Nov 2019 IIRC, Tesla had a more "normal" looking but modernistic pickup truck in the pipeline a while back. Le Cheese (gawd I miss her) was going to buy one when they became available.

What I've been reading is that to achieve a ultra low cost of production, they had to do this kind of shape, to avoid expensive stamping equipment, plus paint shop. And a few more details, including the ugly masonic triangular shape. It might be an engineering marvel in the end, but fucking hurts the eye!!

I actually think the "niche" could be construction workers, who don't give a shit about looks, but they will buy it if it makes economical sense. Low running costs, air compressor, 110/220V output for power tools (no need for the extra generator), 6 seater...

But even then, where is the space for all the hitches, hooks, mudguards, grills, racks, boxes and other various add-ons, etc. I have a few relatives who use pick-up trucks 'legit' as part of their daily work, and I kinda doubt this thing would -- as it is -- have much use on a real farm or backcountry camp project or whatever. As a big drivable battery, OK. Kinda expensive for that. A portable generator is pretty loud and smelly, but a heckuva lot cheaper.

If you look carefully, there are no rear view mirrors. Same happened with Model 3 and later they added them for production. Meaning that what you see here is a very simplified prototype.
Posted 22 Nov 2019 Ok, seeing it again now it kind of grows into you. If they get rid of the idiotic masonic triangle, arrange the headlights a bit better on the corners, and in the end it might pass... the Model 3 front was changed a bit from the initial reveal until it came to production.

Posted 22 Nov 2019 Looks weird but it's the first electric car that can pull a proper trailer AFAIK. The Zoe can pull about 750kg iirc and most are not certified by the manufacturer to tow anything. I've a 1300kg trailer. I'd be up for the switchover to an EV but only when I can buy one that pulls that trailer.

There is a nationwide shortage of construction capacity and a local shortage of skilled labor. And he won't be able to burn his employees out like he does in Fremont, either, thanks to co-determination, union rules, and last but not least, the Bundesarbeitszeitgesetz. If he plans to attract thousands of workers from abroad, or even from other German states, they'll all have to find housing on a market that's already stretched to the breaking point. When you develop something from scratch that's never been done before, using status quo bench marks is useless, non-productive and misguided. They subtract. They do not add.
