Hi everyone

Can anyone please recommend an English speaking Doctor in Darmstadt.

I am asthmatic and will very soon need to get some more inhalers as I am running out...

Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Neil I am pretty sure all them would speak English as I cannot imagine getting through a degree in medicine without having to attend the odd lecture in English!!!

I do not know any in Darmstadt maybe someone else can help but I assume you need to go to a Hausarzt first and they will transfer you if needbe. :D

Hi Neil

There´s a list of english speaking doctors at the British Embassy website:

http://www.britischebotschaft.de/en/consul...urt_doctors.pdf

and of course, the U.S. Consulate has an even bigger one:

http://frankfurt.usconsulate.gov/frankfurt...076/doctors.pdf

Or just go into a chemist (not one you would visit regularly) with an empty inhaler and ask for a new one in English, and when they tell you that you can´t have one and you have to go to the doctor for a prescription, tell them that you´re only here on a stopover and have to take a 14 hour flight to singapore in two hours time... after a bit of stomping of feet and making huffing noises the chemist normally gives in and gives you the inhaler just to get rid of you !!

Good Luck

Neil

Hi Neil

The Apotheke at the main station speaks English or at least the young guy does and is very helpful plus my doctor who I have only used once in 4 years Dr. Barbara Kunz, Darmstadt, Holzhofallee 35, Tel. 06151/311359, its just 100 yards from the Darmstadter Echo and over the road from Wella. The receptionist is not so hot on english, but if you can get someone to call for you who is more 'local' then its not a problem, either that or jsut turn up yourself. Hope it helps

I just switched Doctors, mostly just a matter of asking around. I really lucked out, first place I stopped in She had worked in England for 3 years so was fine with English.

If you don't mind half English/German most Doctors can get by.

Thanks to all for your advice.

I did a search on the Dr. Kunz details above and found a list with a few on, so will make some calls tomorrow.

Then the only thing left to arrange will be the 80cm dish! ;)

Am looking for an english-speaking doctor in Darmstadt as my medication for insomnia brought from the States is running out. Any recommendation from locals or ex-pats? This thread is five years old and an update would also be helpful. Thanks.

I suspect I lot do. General medicine doc I've used (routinely German but English sometimes pops up so I know he can speak it) is Siegfried Hornung, Wilhelminenstr. 17.

Hi

I wanted to enquire about the state medical Insurance.

What exactly is covered by them? I have come to know that state medical insurance only covers 80% of the medical expenses and the remaining 20% has to be covered by us. If so, is there any private medical insurance who covers for the remainder of the expenses?

Many Thanks

Raji

Nope this is not true. Things that are not covered are extra things such as private rooms, 4D scans and also in the dentist crowns and implants. You can get an extra insurance for dental work but I am not sure about the others.

Hi!

Great! Many thanks for your prompt reply.

Could i ask you the name of the private insurance which provides those extra treatments?

Thanks

For extra dental treatment it is called Zahnzusatzversicherung. If you do a google search you'll find lots of information on companies and comparisons, in German though of course.

Thank you for the name of the insurance company.

However, we dont speak German. So it is very hard for us to find information on the internet as most sites are in German only.

If you know any english sites or any english speaking agents who can help us, it will be very helpful.

Many Thanks

Raji

Nope I am really sorry but I don't know any English sites, this is Germany after all and the language is German! I suggest using babblefish to try and get the gist of it or ask a friend to help. It is easy with a dictionary to work out what is included and see the prices.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

I am now offered a job in Leimen.

During first five years of employment, company shall pay for six weeks only.

Im 52 and if i fall sick for more time, what will happen. How much will the state insurance pay?

Whether there is any private insurance for this? And how much premium they will charge?

Thanks

Hi Neil

As this message was posted in 2005, the URLs have changed, and disappointingly, the responsible embassy webmasters have failed to provide HTTP redirects. In case anyone in Hesse is still looking for English-speaking doctors, here are the current links:

Doctors and hospitals in Hesse (from the American Embassy)

Doctors and hospitals in Hesse (from the British Embassy)

Unfortunately, the lists do not give any English-speaking general practitioners in Darmstadt. If anyone here happens to know of one, could they please let me know? A previous thread of mine requested Russian-speaking doctors for my wife, but we haven't been able to locate any GPs in Darmstadt. An English-speaking doctor would be the next-best thing for her.

http://arztsuchehessen.de/

Here you can search by specialism (general practitioner is Allgemeinmedizin) and location, and the results include the languages spoken by the doctors.

This appears to be the same tool used by Techniker Krankenkasse. Either TK operates it, or else someone else operates it but TK embeds it in their website.
