Due to the recent shortage I was looking at Amazon for peanut butter and found this comment, which says there has been a recall due to salmonellae contamination :

Commenting on Markus Meyer's review: currently all the peanut butter items in supermarkets like aldi/lidl/penny/real etc have been recalled due to the risk of salmonella contamination, that's all! Nix supply bottleneck / product change! It just takes until the new correct deliveries arrive, just WAIT, even if it is sometimes difficult nowadays fällt😊

A bit of background: I used to be able to get Peanut Butter & co.'s Old Fashioned (Crunchy or Smooth) at small shops in Greece for several years (~2010ish to ~2016). Nothing but peanuts and salt. Once I tried that, there was no going back to any other peanut butter- the taste is unreal. But for some reason, you can no longer get this PB anywhere in Europe (only the ones with added palm oil, sugar and/or flavors).

My next favorite would be Smuckers Natural, and recently I tried and liked Laura Scudder's Natural (which might be the same thing?).

Anyway, after trying a few natural PBs in Berlin, I ended up with Bio Zentrale's erdnussmuss crunchy being my favorite. Not gonna lie, it's nowhere near as good as the ones above, but it is one of the most pleasant I have tried- fairly neutral taste.

Attached is a photo- you can also get it on amazon.de.

I found just one lonely glass on the shelf in Edeka a few days ago, which is the brand you pictured. I like the taste. So I'll go back in a couple of days to see if they've stocked up some more.

Saw some on sale in Real, Weilheim today, in the American food section, but was too much of a tight-arse to buy it at €3,59.

Instead I bought a bag of peanuts to try making my own at the weekend...

I am in a mission to find my supply today in Kaiserslautern at KFI on Merkurstrasse.  Over the phone, the employee said they carry JIF, Skippy and Reece’s.

Here in Münster (NRW) I have not been able to buy the 'regular' kind of peanut butter (the unhealthy variety with added sugar and emulsifiers) for weeks.

Have you tried the African shop kitty-corner across from what used to be Taco Heroes, near the Bahnhof? I'm sure I saw some in there just a couple weeks ago.

Bought 6 * 350g containers of Mcennedy peanut butter at Lidl for 1.79 € per container. It seemed to be part of some "American Week" promotion.

I always use the word jar. When you say container, I think of this:

That would be a lot of peanut butter :).

You mean, the elephant has eaten all the peanuts?

Well, the elephant is a nut, and a nut magnet.  I think he sucked all the nuts from afar, which affected the Deutschland inventory of nuts. At least that's the theory.

Nor wood I, Robby. my point is that he is the root cause of every bad thing that occurs in the world.  Even the mundane. I pray for his demise.

There is another thread on TT about Trump.

This is a thread about the peanut butter shortage in Germany.

Okay, so the weekend came and went and the peanuts sat in my kitchen looking at me - even this morning as I waited for my toast to jump out of the toaster.

This evening, however, there is a small tub of homemade peanut butter in the fridge - Shorty had a go at making it, and it's sooooooooo scrummy that I can hardly believe that there is any left for me!

So for any of you on the edge of making your own - go on, give it a try! You won`t regret it!!!

when i make my own i start with nuts in the shell and leave the red skin on the shelled nuts before making the peanut butter. It gives it a much darker colour and nuttier taste. Makes my hands sore though shelling so many nuts.

Back in the 70s, when peanut butter, if available, was a luxury item in Germany, I made it often for my children.  A labor of love, because I loathe peanut butter; however, it does make a nice chocolate chip cookie if you use it instead of shortening, using 3/4 of the recommended amount.
I do like these, though.
CHILE GARLIC PEANUTS

3 TBSP olive oil
16 small dried hot chiles
2 cloves garlic, pressed or minced
One large jar dry-roasted peanuts – 24 ounce jar or larger
Salt, optional
1 tsp chili powder

Heat the olive oil in a skillet. Add the chiles and garlic, and saute 1 to 2 minutes, stirring constantly to avoid scorching.  Stir in the peanuts and transfer to a foil-lined baking sheet.  Bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes.  Sprinkle with salt and chili powder and toss well.  Cool.  Transfer to glass jars, cover, and let mellow at room temperature about 24 hours.
After 2 days, remove the chiles, which continue to intensify the flavor of the peanuts.
For longer storage, keep in the freezer or refrigerator up to 3 months.
Here are my alterations to the original recipe:  I toss in a third clove of garlic.  After roasting the peanuts I mix half salt and half chili powder, then sprinkle as above.  I like them spicy, so I use more than the amounts specified.
