Advice Needed: Düsseldorf-Köln monthly ticket with alternative routes

1 post in this topic

Hi everyone,

In about a month I will be moving to Ratingen, near Dusseldorf airport.

I will be involved with a startup based in Köln, and at the same time I will be working a mini-job (3 days/week) in Düsseldorf town centre. I am trying to explore options for train travel for my situation:

3 days a week: Düsseldorf Flughafen - Düsseldorf Bilk

2 days a week: Düsseldorf Flughafen - Köln Hbf.

Having looked online, the monthly NRW ticket seemed like a good idea. As far as I understand it, you need to define a starting stop, ending stop, and a middle stop. My idea is to say I will travel

Düsseldorf Flughafen - Düsseldorf Hbf - Köln Hbf.

The question I have is whether Düsseldorf Bilk would be a valid station on this route? There are two routes you can take between Düsseldorf Hbf and Köln Hbf: One through Leverkusen, and one through Neuss. When I go to Köln I would travel through Leverkusen as this is faster, but Bilk is on the branch which goes through Neuss, which while slower, is still technically a route between the two stations. If my ticket is checked between Bilk and Hbf, would this likely be an issue?

I plan to speak to someone at the train station when I arrive, but if anyone has any knowledge/advice on this, I'd appreciate it!
