Wiesbaden Playgroup for Children Ages 3+?

7 posts in this topic

Hello, we are looking for social outlets for our kindergarten-age children who do not yet have places in a kindergarten. Is anyone familiar with any playgroups (German or English) for children between ages 3 and 6? I have found many groups for younger children but nothing for "older" ones, probably because most kids in this age group are already in kindergarten. Afternoon classes (music, swim, etc.) are nice but don't allow them much opportunity for free play and socializing with kids their age. Thanks in advance for any information!

It is also not free play, but have you looked into Kinderturnen in your area?  They normally have different age groups.

It would also give you the chance to meet other parents and socialise and then maybe arrange other things.

Thank you for the tip, dj_jay_smith. I have looked at some of the gyms near us but haven't signed them up yet. I'll take another look. It's a good idea.

To look for Kinderturnen, don't look at a "gym" (don't know what you mean with it), look at the announcements of local sports club. Almost every sports club has a department for Kinderturnen or Eltern-Kind-Turnen. Here is just one example: https://tv-waldstrasse.de/kinder-turnen

Have you tried an indoorspielplatz near you? I think theres also an english speaking kids club in darmstadt. They have a facebook group that pops up every now and again.

Im near you and take my son to the huge park in Hochheim. Theres always American english speaking kids there. Just a thought.

Thanks, Thai and Petro6golf, for your input. By "gym" I just mean the physical place (gymnasium) where the classes take place. Clubs like the one you linked are what we've found; thanks for confirming we're on the right track with that. Petro6Golf, I'm normally not a big fan of indoorspielplatz but we've checked out all of the ones in Mainz and Wiesbdaden. The kids love them and occasionally interact a bit with other kids but usually do their own thing or just play together. It's just hard to get them to break out of their own play without regular exposure to other kids like they'd get at school or in a playgroup. We haven't been to the park in Hochheim yet. Will check it out! Thanks!
