car exhaust swap

22 posts in this topic

Hello everyone,

I just got myself a new car, a MB E400 (euro6, 2013)and I'm contemplating with retrofitting the AMG exhaust system that comes as optional. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I'm allowed to do that with the new sound regulation (see https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1510264).

Has anyone retrofitted such a thing or has pointers if it's legal or not?

but this is for a legal option the car comes with, it's just that I don't have it on my car. I'm not talking about any aftermarket component.

If you do not have it then it didn't come with your car.   Next time they take it to the TUV they will see it and check your car papers and they will realize it was not there.

Are you sure it is Euro6 if it is from 2013?  I thought that Euro6 only became standard in cars registered after September 2015?

Yeah, so did I. That's why I was very confused when I saw it's an euro6. And yes, it really it. I bought it from the dealership so you can imagine they don't fuck around.

MB started selling Euro 6 cars in 2013, so his E400 most probably is really an Euro 6.

Really?  So how does that work?

According to this article:

https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/emissions/euro-emissions-standards/

Then newly developed cars were only approved from 2014 onwards, with the first registrations from Sept. 2015.

And as it as says, it is even possible that cars purchased up to 1 year later could still be Euro5!

It's really an euro6 but anyway, that's not the topic of this thread :)

You could ask the shop whether it has a "allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis".

The requirements were released in 2012, including Euro 6 first stage (2014) and Euro 6 second stage (2017).   When the engines were actually tested I have no idea, but I am sure in 2013 MB had already Euro 6 cars in the market.

For example, they had the first van in the market that was Euro 6 compliant:

Do you know any shops?

Yes, but only in Würzburg. E. g. Auto-Basar. You could also ask at ATU.

Just go to any TUV or Dekra and ask them.

Slight language barrier but I'll do my best.

I could, but this week my wife is traveling so I have to take care of the kids and on Saturday we go for holidays.  Maybe after that if you still did not find anyone.
