Daily drilling, last 4 years

31 posts in this topic

In our apartment building, for the last 4 or 5 years now, there's been drilling. Pretty much daily. Extra on weekends.

Not 100% sure but it seems to come from the apartment(s) on the next floor up.

It's almost always stopped after a short-ish time, or at least, quickly enough that we've been too tired (when it happens at night) to be frustrated enough to go in search of the driller.

EDIT: they mostly stick (+/-) to the house rules on noise, and when they don't apparently no-one is bothered enough to complain(?)...

But what I don't get is WHY is it SO frequent?! Anyone else live next to chronic drillers?!

I had issues when living in Sydney: sawing, running water, stuff dropping on the floor after it was cut. Often went on at about 1-3am. He moved out before I took any action.

I assume this guy above me was using his apartment to manufacture something (my guess was surfboards as I'd seen them in his ute). It sounds like somebody in your building is doing something similar... cheaper than getting a workshop.

I knew a serial driller who did it in retaliation against a loud neighbour.  The neighbour had renovated before moving in and had ignored all complaints or requests from this guy to be quiet at certain hours etc. so when he finally moved in, the guy decided to give him his noise back.  However, in that case, it was just the two of them and no other neighbours affected.

I got revenge on my nocturnally infernal neighbours. First with a baby, then a flugelhorn.

Think Andy may have nailed it. Tape the noise, keep a log and send the details to the Hausmeister. For starters.

As above, it must be a small business or hobby, surely?   (Also, restrictions on doing it at least Sunday are pretty normal).

:D

Similar, many moons ago we lived with a noisy neighbour who ignored all requests to keep it down at certain times. So I bought the youngest a piano. A while later, I bought a better Piano and it was being delivered ( idea being to sell the first afterwards) I heard the neighbour groaning and say ach du scheisse, jetzt 2.

They actually moved shortly afterwards.

Moral of the story, Don`t get mad, get even

There are 2 types of Germans - those who complain about every little thing and those who won't complain about ANYTHING. I'm married to the latter.

I wonder if my neighbours refer to me as the chronic hammerer.

Could be that like me, your neighbour has a small job he does in his flat that involves drilling.  He might be making small items from wood.  Could do.

Damn ... I came to this thread for a decent TT porn story and all I got was an offer for a flugelhorn! :)

(sorry, just couldn't resist)

I don't think that is a problem confined to Germans judging by some of the posts in TT!;)

Are you sure it is a drill sound? It might be someone who uses a noisy vibrator at night, frequently. Perhaps a noisy electric toothbrush? A tatoo machine? A mixer for mixed drinks at night or smoothies?

The sound of grinding concrete is sadly unmistakable.

Otherwise, that's a heck of a lot of drinks. Where's my invite?

A tattoo machine or electric toothbrush?  Doubtful.  Both make a light humming noise at best.

vibrator it must be, then

Whoever keeps me up at night gets the following song blasted at them from whenever I leave the house in the morning until I return:

While that is hilarious, it isn't fair to your neighbors who don't keep you up at night.

I'm guessing it would be the oh-so-classic "magic wand"

I honestly can't say from personal experience.  I personally prefer stealthy vibes that don't resemble power tools in weight and craft.
