Making plans for Christmas dinner

2 posts in this topic

Last year we hosted Christmas dinner for my wife's family and have vowed never again: lots of long faces from her family and uneaten food..they are very fussy/unadventurous eaters and in retrospect the food and effort were wasted on them.

We were talking about it today and it will be a restaurant this year. Coincidentally, I just read this story from Ireland which is definitely a novel way of dealing with hosting Christmas dinners!

55 quid a head. My goodness. Not a bargain hunter, then.

I do absolutely agree with you about the effort for the unappreciative. It is totally not worth it. I have only ever cooked Christmas dinner for people who were wondrously happy to have been invited and massively grateful for the effort. Otherwise I would have lit them along with the pudding, frankly. I am in awe that your wife still has a family.
